These rankings include all classes between 2021, 2022 and 2023 and are based on how good we think the prospects will be at the next level. This is one of the hardest things to do because it encompasses all classes, but should be great for debates throughout the cities.
With no further ado, here’s a look at prospects 25-16 in the 540 and 276 area codes.
25) Tyler Martin Tyler Martin 6'3" | SF William Byrd | 2021 State VA | 6’2” WF | William Byrd 2021
Martin is a do-it-all kind of wing that doesn’t have to shoot very much to be productive for his team. He has good size on the wing, he can shoot it from deep with good consistency and he’s able to attack off the wing and make the right play for his teammates. He’s also a good rebounder and plays with a great motor as well.
24) Trey Gillenwater Trey Gillenwater 6'2" | PG Eastern Mennonite | 2022 State VA | 6’2” PG | Eastern Mennonite 2022
Gillenwater is a guy who is primed for a breakout year for EMHS who loses their top two scorers from last season and need someone to step in and fill it up for them. A highly skilled combo guard that can create off the bounce and shoot it from deep, Gillenwater’s a guy who won’t wow you with athleticism but he can get to his spots and make plays for others as well.
23) Brooks Haggadorn Brooks Haggadorn 6'7" | PF Roanoke Catholic | 2021 State VA | 6’7” PF | Roanoke Catholic 2021
Possibly the most slept on guy in the Roanoke area, Haggadorn has all the tools a small school will look for in a stretch big. He plays with a great motor on both ends of the floor, he rebounds at a high level and holds down the paint and he’s a pick-and-pop and trail guy who can knock it down from deep with consistency. If we ever get to play AAU this year he’s a guy who coaches will be introduced to quickly.
22) Jamison Foley Jamison Foley 6'3" | SF Northside | 2021 State VA | 6’3” WG | Northside 2021
Foley was a breakout guy for Northside this year and is a guy that many of the small schools in VA should really take a look at. A high motor and pretty skilled wing, Foley doesn’t mind doing the dirty work on either end of the floor and he provided a great scoring punch for them as well. He has decent size on the wing, can shoot it from deep and plays with a great motor on both ends.
21) Tanner Selkirk Tanner Selkirk 6'2" | SG Lord Botetourt | 2021 State VA | 6’2” WG | Lord Botetourt 2021
Selkirk is one of the best athletes in the Roanoke area and he’s a guy who lives in the gym and works relentlessly at his craft. He’s a strong kid with good bounce when he gets downhill, he can catch and shoot it with consistency from deep and he can play in transition both with the ball in his hands and without it. He’s a guy who should continue to get better with time.
20) Jahziel Mensah Jahziel Mensah 5'11" | PG Harrisonburg | 2021 State VA | 5’11” PG | Harrisonburg 2021
Mensah is one of the purest scoring guards in the Valley and was a big reason that Harrisonburg was one of the best teams in the area this past year. He’s a shifty ball handler that can get in the lane and finish among the trees, he can create space for himself off the bounce and can make tough shots from all three levels when he gets it going. He’s a dual threat guy who sets the tone on both ends and is a walking bucket at the point guard spot.
19) Cam Cormany Cam Cormany 6'0" | SG Radford | 2021 State VA | 6’1” WG | Radford 2021
It was Cormany’s time to step up for Radford this year after their two best players went on to Radford University from the years before and he did a great job for them this year. He’s a sniper from deep with excellent range and a quick release, he works well without the ball to get open and never seems to get tired and he’s a good secondary ball handler that can create his own shot as well. He’s one of the purest shooters in the New River Valley and an under the radar prospect that coaches should like.
18) Ethan English Ethan English 6'2" | SG Salem (Roanoke) | 2021 State VA | 6’2” WG | Salem 2021
English had a breakout year for a Salem team that surprised a lot of people in the Roanoke area and he has some great tools to work with moving forward. He’s still a little raw but he has a strong frame and is an explosive athlete when he gets downhill, he’s great in transition where he can finish above the rim and is an excellent rebounder at his position as well. He’s a guy whose best days are probably ahead of him and he could be a steal out of that area for a team that does good player development.
17) Jaheim Niblett Jaheim Niblett 6'5" | PF Martinsville | 2021 State VA | 6’5” PF | Martinsville 2021
A raw big man with some serious potential moving forward, Niblett is a mix of the old school bruiser big along with the new school athletic ones who can run the floor as well. He’s a strong kid who can bully guys in the paint with his strength, he’s a natural athlete that plays above the rim and gets after it and defensively he has the tools to be versatile moving forward. He’s far from a finished product but he plays hard and gets it done on both ends of the floor.
16) Isaiah Coleman | 6’3” WF | Chancellor 2023
Coleman is one of the top young prospects out of the Fredericksburg area who is a natural athlete and a do-it-all wing with tons of potential. At 6’3” he has good size on the wing, he can create his own shot and score it from all three levels and while he played out of position for most of the season in the post he showed the ability to protect the rim come help side as well. He averaged 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks as a freshman and should be a guy to keep an eye on who could jump up this list with time.
