Who are the best athletes currently attending school in Prince George’s County? The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the very best, regardless of class. Below you will find, listed in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the best athletes from PG County. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.

Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.

[player_tooltip player_id="777061" first="Favour" last="Aire"] | Bishop McNamara ’22

Aire is probably not the first name that comes to mind when you think of the top athletes in PG County. However, when you consider the command he has of his body at 6-foot-10, some of the things he does on the floor are quite remarkable.

[player_tooltip player_id="957047" first="Kalen" last="Cobb"] | DeMatha ’23

It's rare to see a freshman excel on the defensive end, but Cobb certainly did at times. Aside from his defensive potential, one of his main selling points are his athleticism. Cobb has impressive physical traits that translate on both ends of the court, especially in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id="836473" first="James" last="Gross Jr."] | Rock Creek Christian ’21

Gross was the first name that came to mind when curating this list. Perhaps generously listed at 6-foot-3, he's a truly explosive athlete who plays above the rim at all times. This video illustrates some of the ways Gross leverages his athleticism.

[player_tooltip player_id="902004" first="Jordan" last="Hawkins"] | DeMatha ’21

A graceful 6-foot-6 wing who glides on the court, Hawkins is one of the premier athletes not just in PG county, but the entire region. He's a bonafide lob threat who is always looking to put someone on a poster.

[player_tooltip player_id="775355" first="Aaron" last="Lewis"] | Lanham Christian ’21

Lewis, a 6-foot-7 forward with long arms, is a high-level athlete who impacts the game in many ways. He's a plus defender who can pose matchup problems for his opponents with his burst and explosiveness on the offensive end.

[player_tooltip player_id="957032" first="Jason" last="Moore"] | DeMatha ’23

Moore might not have the highest vertical on the list, but he's still a remarkable athlete. Just consider his unique combination of agility, strength, and coordination at 6-foot-6, 240 pounds, in conjunction with the fact that he's not even a sophomore yet. There's a reason why virtually every high major football program is keen on Moore, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him play on Sundays in the future.

[player_tooltip player_id="836503" first="Will" last="Reynolds"] | DeMatha ’21

Reynolds was a candidate for other superlatives, such as on-ball defense, but his athleticism jumps off the page more than anything else. He is an outstanding leaper with a quick first step who finishes with power at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="531233" first="Jakai" last="Robinson"] | National Christian ’21

Robinson's athleticism is evident on every possession when you watch him play. Whether he's elevating on his jumper, catching a putback, a lob, or sliding in position to take a charge, he seems to have an extra gear that most can't match.

[player_tooltip player_id="777065" first="Tyrell" last="Ward"] | DeMatha ’22

Ward has earned a reputation as one of the best in-game dunkers in the region. Whether he's throwing down a windmill on the break or finishing in traffic, he does it with flair. Ward's athleticism also translates defensively where he flashes big-time potential.

[player_tooltip player_id="904667" first="Amare" last="Wimbush"] | Wise ’22

A newcomer to the area from Florida, Wimbush made an instant impact in his first year at Wise. He is a fluid athlete who can be devastating in transition. This clip illustrates that perfectly.
