As we approach what would be the end of the school year, it’s time to shed some light on the incoming freshmen class. We’ve been fortunate to experience an overhaul of talent and potential with the last couple of newcomers and from the looks of 2024, there will be no significant drop off. This list will obviously be extended over time as more players are brought to light, but the first couple of articles are taking a look at some of the highly anticipated names to hit the high school scene in Baltimore for 2021-22.

Keep in mind that some prospects who will be named haven’t officially decided on their high school destinations, but the majority are enrolled in the schools mentioned in the write-up, I’ve been told.

Derik Queen | 6’8 | St. Frances

Queen headlines the 2024 class as the prospect with tremendous potential. He stands 6-foot-8 and has a finesse style of play which comes to light after grabbing a defensive rebound, leading the break himself and using his above average passing and vision. His versatility and skillset on both sides of the floor should bolster him into a name that generates buzz throughout his freshman season at St. Frances.

Gabe Grant | 6’9 | McDonogh

Grant is another prospect in the local 2024 pool that comes equipped with size. At 6-foot-9 with plus length, he’s a shot blocking threat whenever he’s around the rim. He rebounds at a steady rate and plays with a determined motor. Still raw offensively, look for Grant to be an impact immediately for McDonogh and get to learn from two already established forwards in 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="904635" first="Dani" last="Dennis-Sutton"] and 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="904633" first="Preston" last="Howard"].

Daquan Davis | 6’0 | St. Frances

Davis is on pace to be one of the more athletic prospects in the area. He will attend St. Frances and be a dual sport athlete, as he’s a standout for his skills on the gridiron as well. With potential to grow size wise, the 6-foot incoming freshman is a great candidate to fill in eventually in a similar role as [player_tooltip player_id="773605" first="Jordan" last="Toles"] (LSU) filled throughout his four years at St. Frances.

Malachi Palmer | 6’4

It’s still unofficial where Palmer will attend high school, but there is a high likelihood it will be in the Baltimore area. With great size at 6-foot-4, Palmer is a play making wing that can flat-out score in a variety of ways. He’s an accurate marksman off the catch from three and makes things happen when he puts the ball on the floor both for himself and others.

Isaiah Williams | 6’2 | Calvert Hall

Williams is the brother of Mike, the top-ranked Baltimore prospect in our 2023 player rankings. Isaiah shares many similarities in his game such as being a threat in the open floor. The 6-foot-2 guard has plus athleticism and finishing ability around the rim. Although he can’t shoot as well as Mike at this stage, he’s better when it comes to play-making for others. The two brothers should complement each other well next season for Calvert Hall.
