The city of Shreveport has had some elite talent over the years. From players like Stromile Swift (Fair Park/LSU) and Michael Qualls (Huntington/Arkansas) to Tramichael Moton (Woodlawn-Shreveport/Grambling), the talent has always been spread throughout the city and parish. With the 2020 class graduating, we will take a look at the top ten players, right now, in Shreveport/Caddo Parish from the 2021 class and beyond in this edition of city rankings.

#1 G [player_tooltip player_id="765923" first="Daniel" last="Ortiz"] (6’0"/2021) - Southwood (pictured above)

Ortiz is regarded as one of the top two guards in the city/parish. He has a skill set that is more diverse than any player in the area. Ortiz has the handle to take a player off the dribble and the long range shooting ability to stretch a defense. Last season, Ortiz worked out of the pinch post and made the free throw line one of his best friends because of it. At the end of games, he is as clutch as they get also. Definitely the top player in my book.

#2 W [player_tooltip player_id="530988" first="Delatrion" last="Moton"] (6’4"/2021) - Woodlawn-Shreveport

When I think of players who wants "all the smoke" at the end of games, [player_tooltip player_id="530988" first="Delatrion" last="Moton"] comes to mind. He is not the flashiest player nor does he have the most hops. What he does have is basketball savvy and game that is seasoned way beyond his years. Moton can create advantageous situations for his team with the ball in his hands and helps make his teammates better. Not too many on the prep level know how to do that and he does.

#3 W [player_tooltip player_id="781860" first="Labree" last="Williams"] (6’5"/2022) - Calvary Baptist

The #2 player in the 2022 class is becoming a stud right before our eyes. No player in the city/parish has more potential than Williams. He can do things a smaller guard can do with a taller frame. Willams can score at all three levels and defend the paint. This year, he proved that he can make plays when the chips are down. Williams learned to put his stamp on games night in and night out. His junior season may be a true coming out party.

#4 G [player_tooltip player_id="781849" first="Rayshun" last="McCullar"] (6’1"/2022) - Huntington

McCullar has a chance to be one of the best pure point guards to come out of the city. While he was known as more of a scorer coming into the high school, McCullar has made the transition to point guard who can score. He has the ability to breakdown defenses and make the right play whether it is by scoring or assisting others. His point guard abilites have sparked interest from Division I schools. Look for him to improve going into next season.

#5 F [player_tooltip player_id="765933" first="John" last="Mitchell"] (6’4"/2021) - Captain Shreve

Mitchell is another player who has an abundance of talent. He can play point forward, be a post presence, or take players off the dribble. His innate ability to make basketball plays is unseen in a lot of players on this level let alone in the area. Mitchell is one of those players who wants the ball in his hands and makes the right decision more times than not. I will be looking forward to his senior season just to see how easy he makes the game look at times.

#6 G [player_tooltip player_id="765938" first="Javari" last="Williams"] (6’1"/2021) - Huntington

Williams is one of the more gifted scorers in the city or parish. The only person who scores the ball better is first on this list. Williams became better at his shot selection this season and it helped the team as a whole. However, when he is on, he can score points in bunches quickly. Williams shooting ability has garnered him interest from some low major schools. Going into next season, look for him to take another leap in his play on the court.

#7 P [player_tooltip player_id="781858" first="Desmond" last="Washington"] (6’5"/2022) - Huntington

Washington saw spordaic play during his sophomore season after a promising summer. With the Raiders post players leaving for college, Washington should see plenty of action in the post. He can run the floor better than most bigs and knows how to score on either block. To be honest, there is not a better post player in the city returning. If he develops a perimeter game as well, Washington may have a season to remember in Shreveport.

#8 G [player_tooltip player_id="932856" first="Lance" last="Waddles"] (6’0"/2022) - Loyola College Prep

Waddles is a guard who plays both ends at a high level for the Flyers. He is one of the best three point shooters in the city. Waddles is learning to become a better distributor and will have the ball in his hands plenty as the Flyers move into next season. I would not be surprised if Waddles leads the city in scoring next season with the amount of touches he will receive. He is definitely an up and coming prep star on the city scene.

#9 G [player_tooltip player_id="970118" first="Kameron" last="Evans"] (6’2"/2023) - Huntington

Evans is one of the most talented players on a talent-laden Raider team. While he can handle the ball well, he is best known for his jumper. Evans has the ability to stretch the floor and make a team accountable for where he is positioned. Next season he will have another year in the offense and will be fully adjusted to the varsity speed of play. I only see his game improving from here.

#10 W Adrian "AC" Bryant (6’3"/2021) - Captain Shreve

Bryant was one of the main cogs that helped Shreve to a district runner-up position last season. This lefty is most comfortable on the left side of the floor and it showed in how he attacked defenses. He played well off of NSU signee Kendal Coleman and knows how to spot up. Once he gets more comfortable putting the ball on the deck, he will be very hard to stop.

The players might not be as tall but they are very skilled. Shreveport and Caddo Parish have a wealth of players that will be ones to watch throughout the summer and into next season.

Other top players in Shreveport/Caddo:

[player_tooltip player_id="931048" first="Blake" last="Gillyard"] (Northwood); [player_tooltip player_id="931058" first="Cameron" last="Brown"] (BTW-Shreveport); [player_tooltip player_id="781850" first="Martin" last="McDowell"] (Calvary Baptist); [player_tooltip player_id="932848" first="Marquarius" last="Johnson"] (Southwood); [player_tooltip player_id="932850" first="Donovan" last="Seamster"] (Woodlawn-Shreveport); [player_tooltip player_id="970139" first="Chris" last="Carpenter"] (Woodlawn-Shreveport); [player_tooltip player_id="931046" first="Will" last="Bagley"] (Calvary Baptist); [player_tooltip player_id="931054" first="Eric" last="McKnight"] (Southwood)
