Top Five Ball-Handlers
One. Curtis Jones Curtis Jones 6'3" | SG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2020 State MN of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’3). Jones isn’t just one of the best available shooters available in Minnesota, you can expand that to the entire Midwest. There are schools desperate for talent right now and I can not stress enough how much they would like to have Curtis Jones Curtis Jones 6'3" | SG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2020 State MN in their program. Why? The reasons are many: 1) A 40% shooter all of his life and that’s part beautiful shot and part beautiful shot selection, 2) a hard worker that can also handle the ball if that is needed, 3) a clutch shot maker as seen most recently when he made a game winning NBA three to send his team to state at the buzzer, and 4) a quality young man that teammates love to compete with.
Two. DT Frierson of Park Center (6’4). Frierson was that dependable, hard working, “give DT the job” type of guy that handled so many different chores for the Pirates. Frierson started games at lead guard and then raced back the other way and defended the opposition’s best player regardless if it was the point guard, a wing shooter, or a stretch four man. He’s also a division one level athlete that was Park Center’s third leading scorer and most charismatic leader. With some changes in the NCAA academic guidelines for this this fall, DT is also able to get into four year schools.
Three. Amari Carter of CDH (6’6). In looking back at some of the CDH games, Carter jumps off the screen as a scholarship looking athlete. He has a big frame plus the type of agility that college programs look for. When the Raiders lost six guys to fouling out against Woodbury, CDH put the ball in Amari’s hands and we saw more of what he could do as a top two option (scored 23, averaged 12).
Four. Hakim Daniels Hakim Daniels 6'2" | SG Maranatha Christian Academy | 2020 State MN of Maranatha Christian (6’2). Daniels was thought to be going to the Air Force Academy/Air Force Prep but is now open and one of the top available workers available in this class. Daniels scored 18 points a game this and always added a deep stance defensive battle, a heavy rebounding effort from the guard/wing position, and an aggressive attacking approach.
Five. Luke Gitzen Luke Gitzen 6'4" | SF Chanhassen | 2020 State MN of Chanhassen (6’4). When it comes to the student athletes with power and skill to their game on the wing, Gitzen ranks with the best in the top 100. Gitzen is a strong, skilled forward that scored 16 points a game this winter for the Storm.
