Shooting is an integral part of any success a team has. Having a knockdown shooter who can stretch the defense often changes a game completely. In this article, I will take a look at eleven sharpshooters around the state that should put the fear in team’s hearts next season.
Carter Domingue Carter Domingue 6'3" | PG St. Thomas More | 2021 State LA (6’3″ / St. Thomas More / 2021) – Domingue is the best shooter I have seen in the Boot. He is automatic from anywhere behind the three point line especially in catch and shoot situations. Domingue is more than just a spot up shooter and has a full offensive repertoire he can lean on. However, when it comes to shooting, there is none better than he in the Boot.
Donavan Seamster Donavan Seamster 6'2" | SG Woodlawn-Shreve | 2022 State LA (6’2″ / Woodlawn-Shreveport / 2022) – Not since the early and mid-90s have a seen a high school shooter who has range from the time line. All-state honorable mention Dononvan Seamster is that shooter. As a sophomore, he was more of a catch and shoot player. Even with that said, he can stroke it from almost anywhere in the halfcourt. He makes defenses accountable for his whereabouts at all times and is one of the most feared shooters going into next year.
Bryce Roberts Bryce Roberts 6'1" | CG Parkway | 2021 State LA (6’1″ / Parkway / 2021) – From the time I saw Roberts at the Northwestern State Demons team camp last summer, he has been on my radar as one of the better shooters in Louisiana. He does not need much room to let it fly and can burn a defense from both corners. His shooting has opened up his drive game and made him a viable offensive threat. Make no mistake about it though, he will let if fly from behind the arc consistently.
Will Bagley Will Bagley 5'11" | SG Calvary Baptist | 2021 State LA (6’1″ / Calvary Baptist / 2021) – While Martin Mcdowell Martin Mcdowell 5'10" | PG Calvary Baptist Academy | 2022 State LA is one of the best shooting point guards in the state, his backcourt mate is not bad either. Bagley time and time again hit three after three helping the Cavs to their best season in program history. Not only did he consistently make three pointers during the season, he often guarded the other team’s best guard. A true testament to his stamina. Look for Bagley to repeat this season’s performance as Calvary looks to have a similar season next year.
Javari Williams Javari Williams 6'0" | CG Huntington | 2021 State LA (6’2″ / Huntington / 2021) – At the Prep Hoops Top 250, Williams put on a shooting exhibition all day long. He hit threes as if he was playing around the world by himself. This shooting continued into the season for Williams and made him a key part of the Raiders success. He has begun to get low major Division I offers because he can catch and shoot better than most players. If he has more of the same success next season, colleges will be competing to grab him.
Bennie Amos Bennie Amos 6'0" | CG Landry-Walker | 2021 State LA (6’0″ / Landry-Walker / 2021) – Early morning games are hard for preps during the high school season. I saw Bennie Amos Bennie Amos 6'0" | CG Landry-Walker | 2021 State LA during an early Showdown in the Lake contest and he had his shot working. He has seemless form and no wasted motion when he shoots which makes him more consistent than most. Amos is one of those shooters who can make 6 or 7 in a row if he is not cooled off. Look for Amos to be important as Landry-Walker has a bounce back season next year
Patrick McCraney Patrick McCraney 6'2" | CG Neville | 2022 State LA (6’1″ / Neville / 2022) – While Domingue is the best shooter I have seen in the state, McCraney is not far behind. The 2-4A MVP has had 27 foot range since stepping onto a varsity floor last season. While it seems that his favorite shot is from the top of the key, McCraney can shoot it from anywhere. His game has expanded as well so watch for him to be on the short list for one of the best players in 4A next season.
Dakota Gasca Dakota Gasca 5'9" | CG West Monroe | 2022 State LA (5’9″ / West Monroe / 2022) – Gasca is one of the most unassuming players anyone will see. He is not overly fast but he is very smart. His best attribute appears to be finding spots to get off his shot. Gasca helped the Rebels to the 5A playoffs largely with his shooting stroke. He spots up well opposite of post up players and guards and makes defenses pay. With a large portion of the Rebel personnel coming back, watch for Gasca to stretch defenses all season long.
Dez Perkins (6’2″ / Madison Prep / 2021) – The lefty Charger is definitely one of the more dangerous shooters in Louisiana. What Perkins does well is make timely threes. When Madison Prep is reeling, he can make a three to steady the course. He is also that shooter than can take a four point lead to ten quickly with his shooting prowess. Look for Perkins to go into the season guns blazing as the Chargers look to bounce back from their disappointment this season.
Jamaria Clark Jamaria Clark 6'2" | CG Doyline | 2023 State LA (6’2″ / Doyline / 2023) – One of the up and coming stars in Louisiana is Jamaria Clark Jamaria Clark 6'2" | CG Doyline | 2023 State LA . His ability to shoot is what separates him from the rest of the freshman class. Clark can shoot threes off the dribble better than many players his senior. He also has a tricky handle and a quick release that makes him dangerous. Wait until he actual learns the high school game. Clark is good but his shooting ability makes him great at this level.
Marquarius Johnson Marquarius Johnson 6'1" | CG Southwood | 2022 State LA (6’1″ / Southwood / 2022) – While he had a down shooting season overall, Marquarius Johnson Marquarius Johnson 6'1" | CG Southwood | 2022 State LA is one of the better shooters in the 2022 class. He seems to shoot better the bigger the game. Against schools like Bossier, Ouachita, and Natchitoches Central, Johnson always found a way to nail a key three or mid-range shot to help the Cowboys get over the hump. Watch for his shooting to pick up during next season.
There are other shooters that coaches and fans should see next season such as Daniel Ortiz Daniel Ortiz 6'1" | CG Calvary Baptist | 2021 State LA (Southwood), Zyquarius Cowart Zyquarius Cowart 6'1" | SG Rayville | 2021 State LA (Rayville), Claudell Harris Claudell Harris 6'3" | CG Hahnville | 2021 State LA (Hahnville), and Collin Coates Collin Coates 6'5" | SF University Lab | 2022 State LA (Runnels). Look for them when they play in a tournament or game near you.
