For many years, Vegas has been a hotbed for talented floor generals, Jamal Smith, Marcus Banks, and Pierre Jackson are just a few of the names that come to mind. In this article, we take a look at the top 10 PG’s in the class of 2021.
1. Zaon Collins Zaon Collins 6'0" | PG Bishop Gorman | 2021 #37 Nation NV 6’0 Bishop Gorman (#2) – One of the top tempo changing PG’s in America. Collins has elite R&J athletic ability and can get anywhere he wants to on the floor. Has quick hands defensively, and is always lurking around the ball. IMO his ceiling is directly correlated to his ability to take open 3’s. When he is confident and does not hesitate, he has shown the ability to make them. If he starts doing it consistently it’s over.
2. Keshon Gilbert Keshon Gilbert 6'2" | PG Durango | 2020 #188 Nation MO 6’2 Durango (#6) (featured image) – Gilbert is a throwback type floor general. It’s death by 1000 paper cuts when playing against him. He consistently makes the correct play and keeps his teammates engaged on both ends of the floor. He has to improve his outside shooting, however, the UNLV commit has the potential to blossom into a very good D1 player.
3. Lorenzo Abellar Lorenzo Abellar 5'8" | PG Liberty | 2021 State NV 5’8 Liberty (#14) – Abellar strolls into the year as the toughest player pound for pound in the state. The pit bull PG hounds ballhandlers and annoys opponents with his defensive instincts. Offensively he can shoot it from 3 and has a knack for finishing drives to the rim.
4. Cort Ballinger Cort Ballinger 5'10" | PG Bishop Manogue | 2021 State NV 5’10 Bishop Manogue (#25) – Ballinger is one of the top two way players in the state. Will defend both backcourt position and can impact the game from the defensive side of the ball. Gritty driver that will take and finish through contact.
5. Semaj Threats Semaj Threats 5'10" | PG Desert Pines | 2021 State NV 5’9 Desert Pines (#26) – Maybe the best 5’9 rebounder in the nation. If Threats walked on the football field, he would instantly be a 5-star corner. He’s quick, strong and agile, and has an explosive burst to his game.
6. Joseph Summers Joseph Summers 5'11" | PG Carson City | 2021 State NV 5’11 Carson (#37) – Summers will get you buckets. The Cerebral PG led the Sierra in scoring last season. He is an efficient shooter, that can finish on drives, shoot it from 3 and make his free throws.
7. Lucas Walker Lucas Walker 5'11" | 155 lbs | PG Moapa Valley | 2021 State NV 5’11 Moapa Valley (#44) – Sleeper Alert. Walker is a fascinating talent, that put up big numbers last season. He’s a pure PG with great vision and playmaking ability. He needs to shoot the 3 more consistently. He had nine games with at least 2 made 3 pointers, but he also had 9 games without any.
8. Xakime Milton Xakime Milton 5'8" | PG Centennial | 2021 State NV 5’8 Centennial (#46) – Milton is one of the fastest players end to end in the State. He has good quickness and can get to the basket and finish. Like many young pure points, he needs to continue to improve his outside shooting.
9. DJ Turner DJ Turner 5'11" | PG Shadow Ridge | 2021 State NV 5’11 Shadow Ridge (#56) – My enigma PG. Some days, he looks like and top tier PG, other nights you hardly notice him. He has a high IQ and good instincts for the game. Turner is quick and has a good handle that allows him to get paint touches. He plays with good energy, so for him, it’s just a matter of limiting unforced errors.
10. Javi Mesa Javi Mesa 5'10" | PG Foothill | 2021 State NV 5’8 Basic (#61) – Javi had a solid year for Basic. He can shoot it and has a creative handle that allows him to get to the rim. He’s quick, however, he needs to strengthen his upper body, and continue to improve his first-step quickness.
