Unfortunately, we only did five players for three teams, leaving plenty of guys who deserve the recognition out and even “snubbing” a few guys because of the limited space. Not to worry however, as we’ve come up with a list of honorable mentions (yes, we know there are some that got snubbed here too). Below, you’ll find five sophomore guards that were heavily considered for the All State team.
Kanye Clary Kanye Clary 5'11" | PG Massanutten | 2022 State VA | 5’11” PG | Princess Anne
I’ll be the first to admit that Clary may have got robbed from the All-Sophomore teams, but because there were only six guards we had to make some tough decisions. Still, Clary’s talent level and production speak for itself and has division one level point guard written all over it. He’s a dynamic ball handler with good quickness and change of pace, he’s shifty yet under control in the paint and he has terrific feel as a playmaker. He can light you up or make his teammates better, evident by his 21.6 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
DeJuan Campbell DeJuan Campbell 6'1" | PG Kecoughtan | 2022 State VA | 6’0” G | Kecoughtan
Campbell is another guy who from a numbers standpoint could have every gripe that he got snubbed from the team as well. The 6’0” guard was one of the most prolific scorers on the peninsula, if not the entire state as he averaged 24.6 points per game and eclipsed the 1,000 point mark as just a sophomore. He did more than just score as well as he averaged 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals per game as well on the way to earning First Team All Region honors.
Xavier Brown Xavier Brown 6'2" | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2023 VA | 6’1” PG | Jamestown
After helping win Surry a state championship as a freshman, Brown transferred into Jamestown with his father Chris Brown Chris Brown 6'3" | SG Peninsula Catholic | 2022 VA who took the Head Coaching spot and helped turn them around from a team that was 8-14 a year ago to 18-4 in a really tough region. The 6’1” guard has a mix of strength and athleticism that allows him to get to the rim, he plays with a great motor on both ends and he’s a leader on the court both vocally and by example. He averaged 15 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 4 steals per game on the way to earning First Team All Region honors.
Kyle Honore Kyle Honore 5'10" | PG Potomac | 2022 State VA | 5’10” PG | Potomac
Honore is continuing the family legacy at Potomac playing for a coaching staff that includes his father Keith as the Head Coach and his brother Keijon, a former Potomac and VA Wesleyan star as an assistant. Much like his brother, Kyle is an extension of the coach on the court and a true floor general who runs the stuff they need, makes everyone better, scores when he needs to and sets the tone on both ends of the floor. He was voted First Team All Region after averaging 13 points and 4 assists per game.
Ethan Millirons Ethan Millirons 6'0" | PG Auburn | 2022 State VA | 6’0” PG | Auburn
Millirons may not play in the biggest market but he’s making a case as one of the top players in the New River Valley and maybe all of the Timesland area. The sophomore guard led Auburn to the Class 1 state championship by doing almost everything for his team, including making the others more confident and better with his playmaking skills. He has good feel and a great skill set, and he’s always level headed as a natural born leader. He finished the season averaging 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists on the year.
