Choosing a total of 15 players to make up the first, second, and third teams was no easy task. Our staff deliberated for a significant amount of time before finally coming up with the names below. Stay tuned for much more postseason coverage right here at Prep Hoops.
FIRST TEAM
G – Jordan Battle Jordan Battle 6'3" | CG Norfolk Collegiate | 2020 State VA | Norfolk Collegiate
Wilson – Battle became the all-time leading scorer in Norfolk Collegiate School history. Led Norfolk Collegiate to the VISAA Division 2 State Finals which is something Collegiate has not been to in a while. Won TCIS Player Of The Year and arguably one of the most underrated players in the Mid Atlantic region and possibly east coast.
G – Jeremy Roach Jeremy Roach 6'2" | PG Paul VI | 2020 State #19 Nation VA | Paul VI
Ayalew – Roach bounced back from the knee injury that cost him his junior year and came back even stronger. The Duke commit was a constant catalyst for his team on both ends of the floor and earned a well-deserved spot on the McDonald’s All-American Team.
G – KK Robinson | Oak Hill Academy
Herron – Robinson came into the season at Oak Hill with the reputation of being a true point guard and floor general that can make anyone better, and he did just that throughout the season while playing on one of the best teams in the country. The Arkansas commit is a guy who may not put up huge offensive numbers, especially in the realm of scoring, but he played with some high-level talent all season and made them all better. He buys in defensively, he runs the show and he handles pressure against some of the best players in the country. He finished the season averaging 11.7 points, 8.1 assists and 4.2 steals per game according to Head Coach Steve Smith.
G – Cam Thomas Cam Thomas 6'4" | SG Oak Hill Academy | 2020 State #36 Nation VA | Oak Hill Academy – Player of the Year
Herron – Probably the biggest Mcdonald’s All American snub in recent memory, Thomas was the go-to option on one of the best teams in the country and will go down in history as the all-time leading scorer for one of the most prestigious programs in high school history. The smooth scoring wing tuned teams up to the average of 31.5 points per game according to his Head Coach Steve Smith, and he did so efficiently with splits of 58/39/87.2% on the year. The LSU commit is a guy we call “a walking 40,” and while he was snubbed as an All American (he was named to Jordan Brand though) he’s got a chance to be an immediate impact player in the SEC next year.
F – Henry Coleman Henry Coleman 6'8" | PF Trinity Episcopal | 2020 State #35 Nation VA | Trinity Episcopal
Herron – The Duke commit has been one of the most consistent players in the state over the past few years, and this year was no different. He helped lead a new TES team to a share of the Prep League regular-season title, the Prep League tournament championship and the state semifinal before they fell to eventual state champs Paul VI. Built like a tight end, Coleman used his blend of strength and athleticism, along with his high motor and solid skill set, to average a whopping 22.8 points on 66.5% shooting from the field, 12.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
SECOND TEAM
G – Xavier Lipscomb Xavier Lipscomb 6'3" | PG St. Stephen's-St. Agnes | 2020 State #449 Nation VA | St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes
Wilson – Xavier won IAC player of the year while leading SSSA to a record of 30-4 and the VISAA division one state championship team. Also guided the Saints to a top 25 national ranking. Lipscomb is a good lead guard that is always vocal and one of the hardest playing players in the DMV. Lipscomb will be playing his college ball at Radford.
G – Justin Fatherly Justin Fatherly 6'4" | CG Nansemond River | 2020 State VA | Nansemond River
Herron – One of the most consistent scorers in Hampton Roads and the entire state for that matter, Fatherly filled it up against anyone who stepped in front of him and was neck and neck with Kings Fork sophomore Jaden Epos for the scoring title (Fatherly averaged more per game, Epps scored more total due to games). The 6’3” wing from Suffolk averaged 27 points per game according to his Head Coach Ed Young, and he did so pretty efficiently shooting 47% from the field and 40% from deep. He showed the ability to score it from multiple levels and did so in many different ways, and he’s considered by many as one of the top available prospects in the 757.
F – Landon Hawes Landon Hawes 6'4" | SF Potomac Falls | 2020 State VA | Potomac Falls
Ayalew – Hawes was a consistent producer throughout his senior campaign. The CNU commit was a threat to go for 30 and 10 each time he stepped on the court.
F – Mekhai Washington | Centreville
Ayalew – Washington’s arrival at Centreville wasn’t as publicized as some other transfers, but one could argue that his impact was bigger than most. The versatile forward was a dominant two-way player for the much-improved Wildcats.
C – Andre Screen Andre Screen 6'11" | C St. Stephen's-St. Agnes | 2020 State #339 Nation VA | St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes
Wilson – Screen improved his game drastically over the past year which ultimately led his commitment to Bucknell. Screen finishes well around the rim and is a good shot blocker standing at 6’11. I expect him to be a contributor starting day one at Bucknell because of his size and presence in the low post.
THIRD TEAM
G – Ethan Wilson Ethan Wilson 6'0" | PG Osbourn Park | 2020 State VA | Osbourn Park
Ayalew – Wilson has been a very productive player in his time at Osbourn Park. He finished his career with over 1200 points, good enough to rank him second all-time in school history. Wilson was also named conference player of the year and first-team all-region.
G – James Berry | Bishop Ireton
Ayalew – Berry has blossomed into a tremendous all-around player in his time at Ireton. He can explode for 25+ points on a given night but has always done his due diligence defensively.
F – Chaunce Jenkins Chaunce Jenkins 6'3" | SG Menchville | 2020 State VA | Menchville
Herron – Jenkins was the breakout senior in the Hampton Roads area this year and was a big reason that Menchville was largely considered one of the best teams in the area as well. The 6’4” wing did a little bit of everything for a stacked team this year, averaging around 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game. He made the national scene earlier this year with the #5 play on Sportscenter with a vicious post dunk, and he had many plays that were highlight-reel worthy throughout the year. He’ll be a guy that someone gets late and will love.
F – William Wilson | South County
Ayalew – Wilson grew into a potent all-around threat throughout his high school career. One thing he does better than most consistently makes others around him better. South County became virtually unbeatable when he was playing at his best.
C – Noel Brown Noel Brown 6'10" | C Flint Hill | 2020 State #360 Nation VA | Flint Hill
Wilson – Brown is another big man that improved his game a lot over the past year. Brown has great size standing at 6’10 with some muscle and does a lot of things you want in a big man. Brown is tenacious on the boards and is a guy you can give the ball to inside and he will find a way to score, especially with two-handed jams. Brown is a really solid piece to help with the rebuild of George Washington.
