The 2019-20 basketball season has officially wrapped up with the release of the all-state and all-group teams. Kentucky commit [player_tooltip player_id="766063" first="Lance" last="Ware"] was named Player of the Year after leading Camden to a 29-1 record and a South Jersey Group 2 title. [player_tooltip player_id="766090" first="Taj" last="Thweatt"] was the only returning member of the all-state last season and was selected to the first team after guiding the Crusaders to the Non-Public B South title. Not every player was happy with the all-state and all-group selections as there were many top players who were left off. Here are the top snubs from the All-Group selections.

[player_tooltip player_id="850509" first="Zarique" last="Nutter"], 6’4 SF Patrick School 2021

The Patrick School had juniors [player_tooltip player_id="850498" first="Jonathan" last="Kuminga"] and [player_tooltip player_id="850516" first="Samson" last="Johnson"] make the all-group teams for Non-Public, but Nutter should have joined them. The 6’4 junior was a key part of the Celtics’ offense all season as Kuminga missed time due to injury. Nutter is at his best attacking the basket and knows how to finish around the rim. He works hard on both ends of the floor and can rebound in traffic. Nutter was one of the top wings in New Jersey this season and deserved a spot on the all-group team.

[player_tooltip player_id="896463" first="Justin" last="Carbone"], 6’4 SG South Brunswick 2020

Classmate [player_tooltip player_id="933653" first="Devin" last="Strickland"] was selected to first team All-Group 4, but Carbone was left off the list. The 6’4 guard is a big-time scorer with the ability to drop 20 points on any given night. Carbone capped off his high school career with 30 points in the Central Jersey Group 4 final against Marlboro as the Mustangs could not stop him from scoring. He takes the ball strong to the basket and makes defenses pay for giving him space to shoot behind the three-point line. Carbone played at a high level all season and was at his best on the biggest stage.

[player_tooltip player_id="926737" first="RJ" last="Weise"], 6’0 PG Allentown 2020

Weise was dominant all season for the Redbirds, but was left off the All-Group 3 teams. The Colonial Valley Conference Player of the Year plays with elite court vision as he routinely made numerous spectacular passes every game. Weise shot the ball with confidence from deep and was unafraid of drawing contact when he attacked the basket. He will continue his basketball career at Rider as a preferred walk-on after having a terrific senior season for Allentown.

[player_tooltip player_id="933724" first="Andrew" last="Gostovich"], 6’1 SG Haddonfield 2020

Randolph-Macon commit [player_tooltip player_id="896460" first="Ben" last="Cerrato"] made third team All-Group 2, but Gostovich should have made it as well. The 6’1 guard led Haddonfield in scoring at 15.6 points per game as the team’s long range shooter. Gostovich knocked down 97 three-pointers as he moves well off the ball and gets his shot off in a hurry. He is a tough defender and good rebounder for a guard his size. Haddonfield will miss both of its senior as they were instrumental to the team’s 25-5 record this season.

Marquis Harris, 5’6 PG Paterson Charter 2020

Paterson Charter was one of the top teams in Group 1 all season, but Sadiki Miller was the only Lion named to any of the All-Group 1 teams. Harris was consistent all season as he ran the offense for Paterson Charter. The 5’6 point guard has elite quickness to blow by his man and plays with good court vision. Harris is not just a passing point guard as he is capable of being a go-to scorer in situations. Miller and Harris concluded their varsity careers with a North Jersey 1 Group 1 title, the first one ever in school history.
