Sophomores: 2019-2020 Most Outstanding Player

<p>With the 2019-2020 season officially over, we want to highlight some of the top players in each class and who is the most outstanding player as well.  This first piece will focus on the top sophomores this year.  Keep an eye on these players as they’re all poise to have a big spring and summer in club ball.  </p> <p><span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>Finalists:</strong></span></p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="618882" first="Langston" last="Reynolds"] | Denver East </p> <p>Reynolds played in all 25 games this season, averaging 17.8 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 3.4 APG, 2.8 SPG, 1.3 BPG.  He is a relentless, down hill attacking guard who is strong and athletic for only a sophomore and has a high ceiling.   </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="918899" first="James" last="Shiers"] | Mead </p> <p>Mead had a lot of talent this season and several key seniors graduating, it will be fun to see how Shiers is more of a focal point moving forward for them.  He averaged 7.1 PPG and 6.5 RPG this season.  He is a skilled big man at 6'10 and has good footwork in the post.    </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="759290" first="Brock" last="Wisne"] | Horizon </p> <p>Wisne has a lot of potential, he has good size at 6’7 and is able to impact the game in several different ways.  He averaged a double-double on the year at 16.2 PPG and 10.0 RPG, shooting 57% from inside the arc.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="918902" first="Elijah" last="Knudsen"] | Mead</p> <p>Knudsen is one of the top shooters in the state and will only continue to improve.  This season he averaged 11.6 PPG for a Mead team that had four different players score in double figures during the year and a fifth close.  He shot 40% from distance on the season going (68/168). </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="918903" first="Jeremiah" last="Coleman"] | Chaparral </p> <p>Coleman did a nice job in the backcourt this season playing along side Sanders.  He averaged 10.7 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.8 SPG, his 10.7 points per game was second on the team.  It will be fun to watch him grow into the lead role these next two years.  </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="759275" first="Zy’Quis" last="Davis"] | Denver East </p> <p>Davis has a very bright future, he put up 10.4 PPG, 6.7 APG, 3.8 RPG, 3.1 SPG and is a pass first guard but can score in a number of ways as well.  It will be fun to watch this young backcourt grow for Denver East these next few years.  His 6.7 assists per game ranked him sixth in the state this year.</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="759274" first="Tayt" last="Chacon"] | University</p> <p>Chacon was second in the sophomore class this year in scoring at 20.2 PPG.  He also put up 4.3 RPG, 2.7 APG, 2.7 SPG while shooting 43% from three-point range (52/122).  Has good size at 6’5 and is able to hurt the defense in a number of different ways. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="618880" first="Jordan" last="Reed"] | Manual</p> <p>Reed averaged 14.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.9 APG on the season for Manual this year.  It will be fun to see how he grows into the leading role with Stofell graduating this year.  Reed has decent size at 6'2 and is a guard that can score from all three levels, shooting 36% from distance (43/120) and 51% from inside the arc 83/162).   </p> <p><strong><span style="font-size: 18pt;">Most Outstanding Player</span></strong></p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="918901" first="Sam" last="Howery"] | St. Mary’s </p> <p>20.5 PPG, 8.5 APG, 6.2 RPG, 3.9 SPG, can score from all three levels of the court, shooting 59% from inside the arc were he does the majority of his work (138/235) and 34% from distance on the season (48/141).  His 8.5 assists per games ranked him second in the state this year, only behind [player_tooltip player_id="915298" first="Landon" last="Wallace"] who has led the state the past two years in a row.  Howery led the sophomore class in scoring this season at 20.5 points per game and that also ranked him 30th in the state in terms of PPG.  He scored double figures in every game but one this season, he also tied his career high of 30 earlier in the year.  He has twelve double-doubles on the year and close on several others, he has great vision and is a good rebounder for his size.  He is a high IQ guard that can hurt the opposing teams in all aspects, he plays under control and makes his teammates better.  </p>
