PHI Playoff Notebook: March 10

Super Tuesday 2.0! Huge night of basketball across the state with 1A/2A Super Sectionals along with 3A/4A Sectional semis. We dive into the big games across the state in our notebook! 20+ games featured!   4A Marian Catholic shocks Bloom 47-45 The biggest game of the night was Marian Catholic’s win over Bloom. Marian Catholic is led by Iowa commit Ahron Ulis who had 19 points and 9 rebounds. Yemi Elutilo is becoming a force for this team with 15 points. Bloom was led by Tulsa commit Keshawn Williams with 12 points. Bloom with their 5 D1 prospects is eliminated.   Loyola shuts down Niles North 48-24 DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE. Loyola shuts down powerful Niles North offense.   Evanston narrowly defeats Glenbrook South 62-57 One of the more fun games of the night with a well-balanced junior Evanston squad against a star led Glenbrook South. Evanston closed late behind Jaylin Gibson who had 18 points, Blake Peters with 16 points, and Isaiah Holden who had 15 points. In the final game of his record setting career Dominic Martinelli had 18 points   Curie rolls over Morton 65-52 The big test will be Friday with a CPS rival. Josiah Hammons drops 17 points along with 14 points for Armond Williams.   Cary Grove survives against Huntley 49-46 Double OT win for Cary Grove. It was the inside/outside duo for Cary Grove that came up big as [player_tooltip player_id="916678" first="Beau" last="Frericks"] dropped 24 points while Frank Jakubicek had 17 points. Uchenna Egekeze led the way for Huntley with 11 points.   Mundelein squeeks by Prospect 46-42 The junior trio each contribute in low scoring game as Drake commit [player_tooltip player_id="920946" first="Conor" last="Enright"] had 13 points, [player_tooltip player_id="796148" first="Trey" last="Baker"] went for 10 points, and top 20 junior [player_tooltip player_id="765154" first="Scottie" last="Ebube"] had 9 points.   Collinsville wins trilogy over O’Fallon 62-38 This was the rubber match as these two metro east programs split during the season. O’Fallon made a statement behind 21 points from SIU-Edwardsville commit Ray’Sean Taylor. Unsigned post [player_tooltip player_id="817716" first="Keydrian" last="Jones"] had 14 points.     3A Fenwick routs Westinghouse 94-71 Our Jakub Rudnick will have more on this game in a feature story. Louisville commit [player_tooltip player_id="529051" first="Bryce" last="Hopkins"] is a BEAST! The #2 junior had 36 points and 12 rebounds. Top sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id="771530" first="Trey" last="Pettigrew"] went for 21 points for the Friars.   Bogan flexes over Riverside Brookfield 71-44 No doubt Bogan was favored, but the margin against a quality RB team is impressive. [player_tooltip player_id="817673" first="Antoine" last="Bloxton"] drops 25 points while LIU-Brooklyn commit [player_tooltip player_id="916669" first="Kyndall" last="Davis"] had 14 points.   Morgan Park narrowly defeats Hillcrest 73-69 This one was close all night long! Two fun and exciting teams with tons of college prospects. PHI’s Steve Parham will have more on this one. The states #3 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="652081" first="Brandon" last="Weston"] led the way with 29 points.   Niles Notre Dame rolls on over Deerfield 48-32 Big time junior recruit [player_tooltip player_id="765153" first="Louis" last="Lesmond"] leads the way with 17 points.   Springfield Lanphier wins over Urbana 46-44 Super close game between these two central Illinois programs.   Peoria Notre Dame looks strong in win over Geneseo 46-33 PND looks good in 13 point win moving toward Carver Arena. [player_tooltip player_id="920961" first="Noah" last="Reynolds"] had 18 points and 7 dimes.     2A Breese Mater Dei over Murphysboro 46-26 Purdue Northwest commit [player_tooltip player_id="916676" first="Caleb" last="Zurliene"] is taking his team to state with 12 points in a win!   Timothy Christian over Fieldcrest 59-43 One of the favorites in 2A continues to roll on!   Orr survives test against Corliss 49-48 The two CPS 2A powers met in a thriller. [player_tooltip player_id="916742" first="Reggie" last="Strong"] had 13 points. [player_tooltip player_id="916773" first="Demarius" last="Splunge"] went for 12 points and 7 rebounds. Jadon Williams led Corliss with 16 points.   Sacred Heart Griffin over Bismark 59-56 SHG impressed us when we saw them in February and they are doing it in March!     1A Goreville shocks Central A&M 71-64 We picked Central A&M to win it all in 1A. They are out after Goreville pulls the upset in Carbondale.   Aurora Christian defeats undefeated Indian Creek 70-43 Wow what a game for Aurora Christian. Danny New had 21 points and Vincennes commit [player_tooltip player_id="916685" first="Taaj" last="Davis"] went for 10 points.   Madison over Athens 68-43 Walter Bursey leads the way with 20 points while [player_tooltip player_id="916792" first="Javonnie" last="Moore"] had 17 points.   Roanoke Benson knocks off Fenger 45-43 Junior center [player_tooltip player_id="652746" first="Luke" last="Braman"] has double double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
