MUSCATINE -- Clear Creek-Amana just kept coming. And coming. And coming. And eventually the Clippers wore down Davenport Assumption, dominating the second half en route to a 79-66 win on Wednesday night, advancing to next week’s 3A state tournament.

It was a tight game throughout the first half until a personal 8-0 run from [player_tooltip player_id="801857" first="Sean" last="Peeters"] gave Assumption a 40-34 lead at the break. That lead got up to nine points early in the third quarter before the Clippers went on a run to grab control of the contest. The Clippers’ smaller lineup just kept attacking Assumption, getting to the rim, and playing great drive-and-kick offense. A steal and layup by [player_tooltip player_id="955272" first="Tyler" last="Schrepfer"] at the end of the third quarter gave CCA a 55-53 lead after three quarters, and they never looked back after, controlling the final 12 minutes of the game and becoming the third team from the WaMaC to qualify for the 3A tournament.

Clear Creek-Amana (19-5) was led by [player_tooltip player_id="796141" first="Christian" last="Withrow"], who had a game-high 26 points, with 17 coming in the second half. Michael Potter added 20 points, [player_tooltip player_id="955272" first="Tyler" last="Schrepfer"] had 16 and [player_tooltip player_id="796172" first="TJ" last="Bollers"] chipped in 10 points, plus was the key defender on Assumption star [player_tooltip player_id="801857" first="Sean" last="Peeters"], who went off when Bollers was sidelined with foul trouble.

Assumption’s season ends with a 19-5 record. [player_tooltip player_id="801857" first="Sean" last="Peeters"] led the Knights with 22 points and 11 rebounds in his final high school game. Peeters had 20 points at the half, but was held in check after the break. His career ends as the school’s all-time leading scorer. [player_tooltip player_id="964862" first="Dayne" last="Hodge"] had 18 points and [player_tooltip player_id="962602" first="Noah" last="Mack"] added 11 off the bench. Both Hodge and Mack return next season and will be the focal points of the 2020-21 Knights.

Below we take a look at some of the top performers from CCA’s win.

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="964862" first="Dayne" last="Hodge"] (Assumption)

A 5-11 junior guard, Hodge is a quick-twitch athlete with a great first step that he uses to get into the paint for finishes. He’s a capable perimeter shooter, and a plus athlete who competes on the glass and passes the ball fairly well. He finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds on 7-15 shooting.

2020 [player_tooltip player_id="796141" first="Christian" last="Withrow"] (CCA)

Withrow is a 6-2 wing who is constantly in attack mode and is an outstanding finisher at the rim. He knows that he’s not a great shooter, and he hardly ever shoots it from the perimeter, rather choosing to play downhill and get to the bucket. A highly efficient scorer, he finished with 26 points on 10-15 shooting (6-7 FT) and 7 rebounds.

2020 [player_tooltip player_id="801857" first="Sean" last="Peeters"] (Assumption)

The 6-4 combo forward is a great athlete who has outstanding body control and touch around the rim, and finishes above the rim. The lefty is constantly in attack mode, looking to get to the bucket and using his strong footwork to free up space. He finishes through contact and handles the ball fairly well. He’ll need to continue to iron out his jumper as he transitions to the next level, but he has a decent looking shot right now. He’s a great rebounder who attacks the glass on both ends of the floor. He finished with 22 points (16 in the second quarter) and 11 rebounds (7 offensive).

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="962602" first="Noah" last="Mack"] (Assumption)

Mack is a 5-11 sophomore guard who doesn’t shy away from big shots. He had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists off the bench for the Knights, showing the ability to shoot off the dribble and the catch, and he has decent length.

2020 [player_tooltip player_id="955272" first="Tyler" last="Schrepfer"] (CCA)

Schrepfer, a 5-11 senior guard, is fearless. The lefty isn’t afraid to let it fly from anywhere, and wants the ball in his hands in key moments. He finished with 16 points on 6-12 shooting (3-8 3P), 3 assists and 3 steals. He flies around on the defensive end and has quick hands.

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="796172" first="TJ" last="Bollers"] (CCA)

The highly coveted defensive end recruit on the gridiron, Bollers is also a strong basketball player on the defensive end of the floor, and was critical in this win. A big, strong 6-5 forward, he has great athleticism, size, strength and length, and he made life really difficult on [player_tooltip player_id="801857" first="Sean" last="Peeters"] when he was on the floor. When Bollers was on the bench, Peeters was scoring at will at the rim. When he was on the floor, Peeters struggled to finish. He finished with 10 points (6-7 FT), 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 blocks.

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="964923" first="Mike" last="Potter"] (CCA)

Potter is similar to Withrow in that they look to attack the rim first, second and third, both in the halfcourt and in transition. A 6-1 wing, he has above-average length, finishes at a high level around the rim and contributes on the glass. He finished with 20 points on 7-8 shooting (1-1 3P, 5-7 FT), 9 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
