There are a lot of talented players and teams in the 3A class, it will be fun to see who comes out on top this year.
Manual – Jaden Stofell Jaden Stofell 6'3" | CG Manual | 2020 State CO
Stoffell ranks third in 3A in made three-pointers to enter the playoffs, he is shooting 38% from deep on the year going (70/183). From two-point range he is shooting 61% on the season (116/189). He is a guard with good size and is a threat from all three levels on the court, last season as a junior he shot 40% from three (82/203). This year he is averaging: 24.6 PPG, 2.6 APG, 2.3 RPG and has scored 30 or more points in eight out of the twenty-one games he has played him. He is a volume shooter and has deep range to his shot, his 24.6 points per game ranks him eighth in the entire state, scoring in a number of different ways. Some school is going to be lucky to sign him.
Colorado Springs Christian – Caleb Stockton
Stockton a junior for Colorado Springs Christian leads the 3A class in three-point attempts and makes at (73/221) for 33% this season from distance. He is a three year varsity player who has been a contributor ever since his freshman year, this year he is averaging: 17.8 PPG, 6.1 APG, 4.8 RPG, 2.3 SPG and in his career so far he is shooting 35% from behind the arc (162/465). He is a guard that can impact the game in several different ways, mainly with his playmaking ability and scoring. His 6.1 assists per game ranks him third in 3A. He is a guard that can also score from all three levels, keeping the defense on their heels, his 73 makes from deep ranks him seventh in the state in terms of made threes on the year.
Strasburg – Mitchell Davis
Davis the 6’2 senior leader for Strasburg is one of three players to average double figures in scoring for them this season, he is averaging: 13.0 PPG which is second on the team and his 8.2 RPG leads the team. He is shooting 34% from long range this year (64/190), leading the team in most made threes as well. In his career he is shooting 36% from three-point range (147/413) and does the majority of his scoring from the arc, moving well without the ball and able to create his own shot. he gets it done on the defensive side of the ball as well, he is a smart, tough player who leads the team in charges with eighteen on the year.
Coal Ridge – Austin Gerber
Gerber is shooting the ball extremely well for Coal Ridge this year, he is (61/129) on the season for 47%. Gerber is a player who has made a big jump from his junior year to senior, this year as a senior he is averaging: 18.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 2.6 APG, 1.8 SPG which is about doubled across the board since his junior year. Last year as a junior he shot 37% from deep (46/123). He is also shooting 53% from inside the arc (69/131) being able to score in a number of different ways. He is the only senior on the team and is a huge factor in their chances of advancing.
Resurrection Christian – Isaac Jessup
Jessup is a player for Resurrection Christian that has had a big impact, this year as a senior he is averaging: 16.6 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 4.5 APG, 4.9 SPG and is shooting 43% from three-point range (54/127). His 16.6 points per game is second on the team, he has good size at 6’3 and is able to create his shot in a number of different ways and can score from all three levels. He has scored double digits in all but two games this year and is a force defensively also. He is a force from inside the arc as well, he is shooting 73% from two-point range (85/117) and shoots it well from the foul-line at 86% (32/37). He ranks fifth in the state in steals, with 108 on the year and leads the team in charges with sixteen, getting it done on both ends of the court.
University – Tayt Chacon Tayt Chacon 6'4" | PF University | 2022 State CO
Chacon is one of the stronger shooters for an underclassman in the state, the sophomore is shooting 42% from distance on the year (48/114). He is a player with a big upside at 6’5, as a freshmen he averaged: 16.0 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 2.3 APG, 1.8 SPG and this year he is putting up, 20.0 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 2.7 APG, 2.9 SPG. He is a player that can put the ball on the deck and beat his defender off the dribble or rise up and shoot. His 20 points per game leads the team and ranks him third in the 2022 class. He’s a threat from all three levels as well, shooting 57% from two-point range (105/185). Keep an eye on him going forward these next two years.
DSST: Byers – Kyrie Thomas Kyrie Thomas 5'11" | CG DSST:Byers | 2020 State CO
Thomas is averaging: 24.5 PPG, 4.2 APG, 2.4 RPG, 4.8 SPG shooting 43% from three-point range (41/95). He is a crafty guard that can score from all levels on the court and has good handles. His 24.5 points per game ranks him fifth in the state and third in 3A. His 4.8 steals per game puts him at ninth in the state as well, he plays with great poise and makes the right decision every time down the court. From inside the three-point arc he is shooting 68% going (117/173) and 92% from the charity strip (59/64) which ranks him second in the state in terms of percentage.
Faith Christian – Caleb Clark
Clark a junior, saw action in twenty-games last season for Faith Christian and has made a nice stride in his junior year averaging: 10.9 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.0 SPG while shooting 42% from distance (41/98). He has good size at 6’4 and is able to leave his impact on the game in a number of different ways. He is second on the team in scoring and leads the team in shooting from three. Next year will be interesting when Clark is asked to take more of an aggrieve role on the offensive side after some seniors graduating this year.
