WFA Shootout: Top Rebounders

<p><em>The annual Wells Fargo Advisors Shootout took place at Cedar Rapids Kennedy last Saturday, with eight games being played. Throughout the week we’ll provide more coverage on the Shootout. In this article, we take a look at the top rebounders from the event.</em></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Reed Stallman (Alburnett, 2021)</strong></p> <p>Stallman isn't blessed with great size, elite athleticism or tremendous length, but he's incredibly active, has a nose for the ball, great hands and makes good, hard contact on his box outs. That's a recipe for a good rebounder, which is exactly what Stallman is. He pulled down 13 rebounds (5 offensive, 8 defensive) in the Pirates win over Don Bosco.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Sam Somerhalder (St. James Academy KS, 2022)</strong></p> <p>The 6-6 combo forward from Kansas is an intriguing all-around prospect with his length, size and ability to put the ball on the deck and score. The biggest impact he made in the Thunder's narrow loss to Kennedy, however, was on the glass, where he pulled down 10 rebounds. He's a threat to take it coast-to-coast after pulling down a defensive board.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/caleb-schlaak/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/caleb-schlaak/">Caleb Schlaak</a></a> (Kennedy, 2021)</strong></p> <p>Few players in the state have raised their stock as much as Schlaak this year, with his ability to score from all three levels, protect the rim and rebound the ball. The 6-7 forward pulled down 9 rebounds in the Cougars win over St. James Academy (to go with 27 points). Like Somerhalder, he's a threat to go coast-to-coast after pulling down a defensive board as he's really improving his ball handling.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Sam Funke (Liberty, 2020)</strong></p> <p>A 6-3 forward, Funke is kind of like Reed Stallman - he doesn't have great size or elite athleticism, but he plays really hard and wants to get rebounds. He pulled down 8 boards in the Lightning's win over Carlisle, including 4 on the offensive end. Those extra possessions are invaluable.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Eli Raridon (Valley, 2022)</strong></p> <p>A 6-6 power forward, Raridon is also a prospect to watch on the gridiron. He's strong, athletic, has great hands and is a handful in the paint on both ends of the floor. With his strength, nobody is moving him, and with his athleticism and hands, he's grabbing boards over other players. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/nick-reid/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/nick-reid/">Nick Reid</a></a> (Central City, 2020)</strong></p> <p>It should come as no surprise that the state's leading rebounder ended up on a "top rebounders" list. Reid, who is averaging a state best 19.8 rebounds a game, exceeded that total against Ed-Co, going for 29 points, 23 rebounds and 6 blocks. The 6-7 Emporia State commit is a man among boys at the 1A level.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jaylon-moses/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jaylon-moses/">Jaylon Moses</a></a> (Xavier, 2021)</strong></p> <p>The 6-8 junior has battled injuries throughout his high school career, but has rebounded at a high level for the Saints this year. While the knee injuries have zapped some of his athleticism, he's still more athletic than most of the other players on the floor, has great size and length, and outstanding hands. </p>
