Trivium Prep was the 3 seed and Rancho was the 5 seed.
Rancho clearly had the tougher regular season schedule with only one actual loss in 2A and all their other losses were too higher level competition.
That schedule seemed to pay off when the game got close. Rancho led 24-16 at the half with Hunter Ruck Hunter Ruck 6'9" | PF Rancho Solano Prep | 2020 State #484 Nation AZ dominating inside then 33-28 after the 3rd qtr. Just when you though Trivium would make a run, Legner put the team on his back and ended up scoring half of the teams total points. The Mustangs ended up pulling away late and winning it 46-35.
The Mustangs win the 2A title.
Trivium Prep has a nice program. A good young coach with Ryan Nelson with players who play for each other. They will lose some good seniors but looked to have some talent coming back for next year.
Final score was 46-35 Rancho.
Here were some of the standouts from the game:
Tyson Legner Tyson Legner 6'2" | SG Rancho Solano Prep | 2020 State AZ CG 6’2 2020 Rancho Solano Prep
-A physical guard can shoot it and drive to the cup. He is a tough on-ball defender and plays as their PG. He can play on or off the ball and is a good rebounder for a guard. Legner made some huge plays down the stretch to win it. This is Legner’s second ring and he just knows how to win!
Hunter Ruck Hunter Ruck 6'9" | PF Rancho Solano Prep | 2020 State #484 Nation AZ PF/C 6’9 2020 Rancho Solano Prep
-A stud inside the paint with gobbling all rebounds in area. He used his polished right hand hook shot 4-5 times. He was a force in the first half to set the tone with the game. This was also Ruck’s second ring and him and Legner will be greatly missed.
Jake Taylor CG 6’1 2020 Trivium Prep
-Great feel for the game and is highly skilled. The lefty can shoot it with range plus step back on his defender and has a soft touch. Likes pulling up from mid-range. He is very crafty off the pick and roll. He is still very thin but makes up for it with his skill and IQ. He will be greatly missed next year for the team.
Jake Schleifer Jake Schleifer 6'7" | PF Trivium Prep | 2021 State AZ PF 6’7 2021 Trivium Prep
-Their one player with size for the team is a good shot blocker and rebounder in his area. He can face-up from mid-range and rip through and score it. He will be their main offense next year.
John Jeanisse John Jeanisse 6'3" | PF Trivium Prep | 2021 State AZ PF 6’3 2021 Trivium Prep
-A fluid forward is one of the best athletes you have never heard of. He has good length and quick springs to play way above the rim. He can improve his skill level but he should breakout next year for the Crimson Knights.
Jasper Zamora PG 5’8 2022 Trivium Prep
-The PG on their team is an old school pure PG looking to set the table. He is smaller but strong and stocky with good speed. He can drive the lane and score it plus he is a bully on the ball defensively. (Avg 3.4 steals per game).
