Here are a few underclassmen that have had strong seasons, and that everyone should take stock in right now:
Tate Odvody (Fr) – Elkhorn South
After a slow start to the season, Odvody has finally gotten in to the groove of playing varsity basketball. If you went to watch this kid play, it’s hard to believe that he is only a freshman. He has scored at least 18 points in the last 5 outings, including 19 this past weekend to help the storm defeat top 10 opponent Lincoln Pius.
Connor Millikan (Fr) – Platteview
Millikan leads Class B in scoring and it’s not everyday that you see a freshman at the top of the list. Connor easily has the most confidence I have ever seen in a freshman and is not afraid to have the ball in his hands in a tight game. He recently scored 33 in his last outing against Bennington.
Jayden Dawson (So) – Omaha Central
Jayden Dawson is definitely not one of the most well-known players on this Central team, but will be in the coming years. As of now, he provides a great spark off the bench for the Eagles and is a very efficient player when he is in the game. Dawson should move in the starting lineup next year after a handful of starters graduate, and will help lead a once again very talented Omaha Central team.
Kyle Ingwerson (So) – Papillion-LaVista
Papio is having a much more successful season than last, and that is big thanks to emerging sophomore standout Kyle Ingwerson. Ingwerson plays as hard as anyone else on the court and is not afraid of taking contact. He led the team to the Metro Semifinals after upsetting the number one seed Omaha Central, and was inches away from a championship appearance.
Gage Stenger (So) – Millard South
Stenger is one of those kids that fills up the stat sheet very quietly. He has been near a triple-double a handful of times this season, most recently versus Omaha Northwest, as he scored 11 points, dished 8 assists, and grabbed 6 rebounds as well as getting 4 steals. Gage could care less if he has 0 or 30 points, as long as he did whatever he could to help the team win.
Josiah Dotzler (Fr) – Bellevue West
Dotzler might be the most promising prospect on this list. He doesn’t play a load of minutes, but when he is on the court he makes the absolute most of it. The lefty has a great stroke from beyond the arc, and will be the next T-Birds point guard that will flourish on the basketball court.
Keshaun Williams (So) – Omaha North
Williams is not only one of the most athletic underclassmen, but one of the most athletic kids in the entire state. With great speed, he is tremendous at pushing the ball up the floor, jumping into passing lanes, and one the of the best on-ball defenders I have watched this year. On the offensive end he is one of the best at drawing fouls and getting to the foul line.
