(5) Dayshawn Wiley 6’3 SG Desert Pines 2021 (#8PHN 2021) – His athleticism should translate well to this environment. Natural scorer that can hurt you with his 3 point shooting and finishing ability. He has played well against high-quality competition all year, I could see several scenarios where he was named tournament MVP.
(4) Sebastian Mack 6’1 SG Durango 2023 (#1PHN 2023) – If he keeps shooting at this rate, his stock will be through the roof. He’s in a nice groove right now. Mack’s been lethal in the playoffs including a scintillating 8 for 8 performance from 3 against Coronado. More than just a shooter, against Faith he showed that he can also make plays for his teammates. The narrative on Mack is that he’s a pure 2 guard, that would have to grow in order to reach his full potential. If he continues showing flashes of PG skills, then expect his National stock to continue to rise.
(3) Michael Klekas 6’3 SF Elko 2022 (#10PHN 2022) – Klekas has put together a tremendous season. The 3A bracket is arguably the most competitive. First and foremost for Klekas is to show that he can play against the type of athletes that Del Sol will bring. His skill set has translated to big numbers and wins this season, so he’ll be under the eye, and position test, which will be almost as important as his production.
(2) Ethan Speaker 6’6 SF Boulder City 2021 (#7PHN 2021) (featured image) – The legend of “The Big Kid From Boulder” only grows if Speaker is to lead the Eagles to a title. Just the type of player that can put his team on his back. He’s been magnificent all season, in this competitive environment can he raise the level of not only his play but his teammates? If that happens, I think the noise grows even louder about the local school offering him.
(1) Mason Whittaker 6’6 PG Spanish Springs 2020 – Whitaker is about 6’5 and he can handle the ball, He’s going against the 8 time defending state champions, and the 7th ranked team in the nation (according to Max Preps Computer Rankings). Skill test here. If Whittaker shows that he has the skills to protect the ball against this swarming defense while continuing to maintain his rebounding and playmaking skills, then we’ve found a prospect.
