I have been fortunate to see a lot of basketball, and a lot of prospects during the high school season. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top point guards in the class of 2022.
Milos Uzan 6’3 PG Desert Pines (#1) – Cerebral pass first PG. Uzan can orchestrate and organize with the best of him. He has terrific feel and timing on his passes. The type of player that can throw his man open. Uzan combines his passing skill with big shot making ability. He prefers to do it off the bounce, however, he has also proved to be efficient in catch and shoot situations. One of the top PG’s in not just the state, but the nation.
Tavionte Jackson 6’0 PG Las Vegas (#6) – Perhaps no player has risen as rapidly as Jackson. His rise coincides with a terrific sophomore season. Jackson did it all for Las Vegas this year leading the team in points and steals. He was second in assist, and perhaps most impressively, he was 2nd on the team in rebounds averaging over 7 per game.
Damion Byrd 5’10 PG Silverado (#7) – Although no longer a member of the Silverado team Byrd is still one of the top PG’s in his class. High IQ player with good handles and playmaking skills. Byrd is a pass-first PG whose best strength is his understanding of when and how to get a good shot for his team. Good on-ball defender with the lateral quickness to stay in front of opposing PG’s
Jamir Stephens 6’0 PG Desert Pines (#11) – Stephens can also be characterized as a combo, however, his future is clearly at the 1. Fast guard that excels at scoring in transition. Stephens is a high-level finisher who understands how to finish over size and length one he gets into the paint. Strong handle. Stephens can beat defenders in 1 on 1 situations or capitalize on openings when he’s off the ball.
TT Valosek 6’3 Incline (#17) – Valosek is an intriguing talent. He plays for 2A Incline, however, he has several skills that transcend levels. First of all, he has great size for the position. At 6’3 he has the ability to see over defenders and deliver dimes to teammates. Valosek isn’t the fastest player, however, he is deceptively quick, and understands how to use angles to free himself. He has absolutely dominated the 2A level this season leading Incline to a perfect league record while averaging nearly 20 per game.
