Las Vegas is stop number three on their West Coast winter circuit and is the last stop before the Championships in Oakland. I pulled up to the Tarkanian academy to catch a glimpse of some future prospects. In this article, PH takes a look at the performance of some of the top Las Vegas prospects on Day 2 of Made Hoops.
Jevon Yapi 5’5 PG All Vegas 2025 – I heard a lot about this kid over the last few months, I’m glad I finally got a chance to watch him. I get it, he’s a uber skilled PG with a flashy handle and elite playmaking ability. His size may always be an issue, but there is no doubt that he can flat out play. He finished with 29 on the day. Willing defender with quick hands, Yapi was impressive in leading all Vegas to a 3-0 record during stop 3.
Chris Nwuli 6’3 SF All Vegas 2025 – Nwuli continues to impress me more and more every time I see him play. To me, his best skill is his patience and playmaking ability. Nwuli is extremely comfortable with the ball in his hand. He never rushes and he is willing to survey the floor to find the open man. He showed off his advanced offensive skillset utilizing a Dirk like Flamingo fade away.
Josiah Cunningham 6’0 SG 2024 – If ever a player was wired to score it’s Cunningham. I’m a huge fan of guys that don’t need the ball in their hands to impact the game. Cunningham certainly checks that box. I’m also a huge fan of players that come up big when their best is needed. Cunningham also checks that one. He was magnificent scoring 14 in the second half as he helped Vegas Elite remain undefeated with a narrow 1 point victory.
Taj Degourville 6’3 SG Vegas Elite 2024 – Nevada H.S basketball may be getting a new bully. Degourville size and frame dwarfed nearly everyone I saw this weekend. He doesn’t play through contact, he dishes it out. As a coach mentioned to me, anytime he isn’t playing downhill, he is letting opponents off the hook. Unbelievably advanced skill set, Degourville has created his own set of finishing moves on his drives to the paint.
Jase Richardson 6’0 Vegas Elite 2024 – The lefty was also a huge part of Vegas Elite’s victory. He showed his toughness today, finishing challenged shots in the lane. Good shooter who didn’t shy away from big shots in pressure moments. He chipped in 12 in the victory.
