There were some interesting individual performances during the three-day tournament:
1) CJ Powell, junior, Highland Park:
No surprise that the 6-foot-7 junior dominated. He scored 21 in a win against KC-Washington, then 22 in the loss to Lawrence. In the third place game, he repeated the 22-point total in a win over Wichita Northwest.
2) Elijah Brooks, sophomore, Topeka West:
Brooks led the Chargers to the brink of a title, and he stood up under the pressure of two overtime contests. He scored 22 versus St. Marys, 19 against Wichita Northwest, and 12 in the loss to Lawrence.
3) Noah Schneider, senior, Hayden:
Leading scorer John Roeder has needed a sidekick for support. 6-foot-4 senior Schneider has stepped up his production recently, putting up 13 against Topeka West prior to the tournament. He scored 4 against Lawrence, but came back with 10 against Topeka High.
4) Jahi Peppers, junior, Highland Park:
Pepper’s production has been up and down, partly due to the output from Powell and sophomore Juan’Tario Roberts. But Peppers shined in the three games of the tournament, with 10 points in a win versus KC-Washington, 13 in a loss to Lawrence, and 18 in a win over Wichita Northwest.
5) Geivonnii Williams, junior, Topeka High:
Williams brought athleticism and outside shooting to the tournament. He scored 10 points in a loss to Wichita Northwest and 14 in a win over St. Marys. He finished with 6 in a blowout of Hayden.
