Elijah Brooks, Topeka West:
The guy everyone expected the most from following his freshman year, Brooks is averaging 21.3 points. He also ranks among the city leaders in rebounds and steals. Last year, the 6-foot-2 Brooks averaged 10.5 points, made 13 3-pointers and shot 76.3% from the free-throw line.
Juan’Tario Roberts, Highland Park:
The other star freshman last year, Roberts currently leads the Scots with a 19.2 scoring average. In his rookie campaign, Roberts averaged 11.6 points and connected on 40 3-pointers.
Dagen Brewer and Ty Henry, Seaman:
The 5-foot-10 Brewer carries a team high 10-point average, and pulls in about 4 boards a game. He’s been the epitome of consistency, scoring between 6 and 12 points in every game.
The 6-foot-3 Henry has been less consistent, but had big outings of 12 points versus Lansing and 15 against Highland Park and, like Brewer, averages about 4 rebounds a contest.
Carter Olson and Zander Putthoff, Shawnee Heights:
The Thunderbirds returned a solid veteran core, but needed some additional pieces. Enter Olson and Putthoff. The 6-foot-4 Olson is the city’s second leading rebounder and leading shot blocker. His scoring is inconsistent, but he’s doing what’s needed for the T-Birds.
Putthoff’s output has been inconsistent as well as he fills a role for the deep T-Birds. But he shot an amazing 58% from beyond the arc in the first seven games of the season.
