Here were some of the sophomores and freshman who stood out which include 3 knockdown shooters:
Roosevelt “Tru” Washington SG 6’3 2023 Cesar Chavez (Pictured)
-Well built freshman keeps improving his game. Already highly thought of going into the HS season and is backing it up with strong play. He attacks on the break, a top-tier on-ball defender and much improved perimeter shooter. He can comfortably make the 3pt shot now and hit from mid-range.
Dominic Capriotti SG 6’4 2022 Skyline
-One of the top shooters in the state from his class. He gets his feet set quickly and squares up perfectly to the basket. He has deep range and gets it off in a blink of an eye. He is very strong for a guard and can rebound well and score it efficiently inside. He has a smart floor game and rarely turns the ball over and never over dribbles.
Pascal “PJ” Volz PG 5’11 2022 McClintock
-A lead guard who can get hot in a hurry. He also is a smart decision maker and passer. He is one of the better deep shooters with real range on his shot. He has a quick shooting release and he will take over the heavy scoring load when Williams and Garland graduate.
Jaylen Wesley PF 6’3 2022 McClintock
-A strong power forward who is undersized but plays the game with amazing energy and a huge motor. He has a huge wingspan and a will to grab every rebound in traffic. His physicality and strength along with his fight gets every 50/50 ball. He scores it strictly in the paint but is effective.
Landon Schumaker PF 6’6 2023 Basha
-A talented forward who can score it from inside and out. He uses angles and his body to score it inside the paint. He always gains an advantage and then goes to work with multiple counter moves. Once he is in position, he is very hard to defend. His handle for position and court vision set him apart from other forwards. He is a very good passer/play-maker.
Trenten Lavender CG/SG 6’1 2022 Centennial
-A strong guard plays on or off the ball. He is a tough competitor and can shoot it from the perimeter at a good rate. He is very efficient and will never throw up bad shots. He can drive it to the hole with his left or right hand through contact using his sturdy frame.
Jake Lifgren SG 6’0 2022 Centennial
-Another young guard for the Coyotes can really shoot it. He has good strength and squares to the basket quickly and is very consistent with it. He doesn’t create too much but is confident off the catch. He can drive it occasionally and use the floater. He’s turning into one of the better shooters in the West Side for underclassman.
Emery Young W 6’2 2023 Centennial
-An athletic wing who rebounds the ball well in his area. He slashes to the basket with a nice handle and is very active on the defensive end. He can hit the mid-range J plus the 3. He is yet another strong building block the Coyotes have for the future.
