Standouts: Berkeley Prep vs. Seffner Christian

<p>On Tuesday night I made my way over to Seffner to see Berkeley Prep visit Seffner Christian.</p> <p>The roadside Buccaneers came out with a 57-42 victory over Seffner Christian.</p> <p>Leading comfortably 32-19 at the break, Berkeley Prep saw a true battle from the Crusaders in third quarter who cut the deficit to just seven points until a  buzzer beating 3-pointer from 2020 guard <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/kegan-karnes/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/kegan-karnes/">Kegan Karnes</a></a> put his side up 10 points at the end of three (<a href="https://twitter.com/JakePerper/status/1222326160626978819?s=20">VIDEO</a>).</p> <p>Here is a look at the standouts from the tilt.</p> <h3><strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/kegan-karnes/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/kegan-karnes/">Kegan Karnes</a></a> (Berkeley Prep)</strong></h3> <p>2020 6'1" guard <strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/kegan-karnes/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/kegan-karnes/">Kegan Karnes</a></a></strong> has always been a gifted shooter which he displayed tonight, but it was his drives to the basket that caught me eye the most. He hit five 3's including three in the second quarter alone and the third quarter buzzer beating triple (mentioned above). Karnes finished inside on four different occasions with different moves and reverses. I like his deceptiveness, foot speed and high IQ. He's a good leader who would make any college program happy.</p> <h3><strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/cj-hawkins/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/cj-hawkins/">CJ Hawkins</a></a> (Berkeley Prep)</strong></h3> <p>That was the most complete game I've seen 2022 6'7" guard/forward <strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/cj-hawkins/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/cj-hawkins/">CJ Hawkins</a></a> </strong>play. 12 points in the first half from him as he shot the mid-range well, went to the rim and hauled in rebounds. He is patient in this Berkeley Prep offense and doesn't force much rather wait for a good opportunity or feed a teammate with a nice pass. Hawkins recorded 21 points pacing Karnes and playing off of him for all four quarters. He is a true competitor who is involved on every possession and continues to get better all-around.</p> <h3><strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/mike-trigg/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/mike-trigg/">Mike Trigg</a></a> (Seffner Christian)</strong></h3> <p>Slowing down 2021 6'5" guard <strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/mike-trigg/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/mike-trigg/">Mike Trigg</a></a> </strong>is a tall task. Berkeley Prep threw everything they had at the physical junior guard and he still put up a 21-point night. In front of South Carolina football head coach Will Muschamp and his staff, he proved his superb athleticness and pure ability. A tight end on the gridiron, Trigg was honored before tip-off after topping 1,000 points already in his high school basketball career. As the lead point man, he can really cause problems, especially when given a free lane downhill.</p> <h3><strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tony-livingston/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tony-livingston/">Tony Livingston</a></a> &amp; Cobey Quarterman (Seffner Christian)</strong></h3> <p>19 of Seffner Christian's points came from 2022 6'6" guard <strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tony-livingston/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tony-livingston/">Tony Livingston</a></a></strong> and 2021 5'11" guard <strong>Cobey Quarterman. </strong>Livingston was held scoreless in the first half but came alive in the third quarter with nine of his 11 points. He is a big body who can shoot the ball but is at his best when headed to the rim. Quarterman hit a pair of 3's and quite frankly was the best knockdown shooter for the Crusaders under pressure.</p> <h3><strong><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/rj-garcia/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/rj-garcia/">RJ Garcia</a></a> &amp; Mark Mulfinger (Berkeley Prep)</strong></h3> <p>Despite having just six points between the two of them, 2021 pair, 6'1" guard <strong>RJ Garci</strong><strong>a </strong>(two points) and 6'3" forward <strong>Mark Mulfinger </strong>(4 points) were essential to the offensive flow. Garcia is a blazing fast guard who has the ball on a string, is vocal and keeps everything together on both ends of the floor. Mulfinger was moving the ball around and grabbing key rebounds for Berkeley Prep.</p>
