The 6’5” wing was aggressive throughout playing hard and taking quality shots. Drilled multiple pull up jumpers from inside the arc getting good elevation. Smooth take he finished with a euro step. Crashed the glass with some authority especially on the defensive end. One of the top unsigned senior prospects still on the board in Illinois. We caught up with him to discuss his senior year to date.
“We started off quite rough. Being with this young group and locking in with them every day. I am trying to find my way and how I can help them develop and elevate everyone’s game as well as mine. I had a couple rough patches scoring, but everything else was pretty easy. As you can see everything is turning around for us and I am looking forward to it.”
Williams is starting to take on more of a leadership role.
“I think everyone is finding themselves and we are finding our identity as a team. We come in and work hard every day. I have noticed these guys need me to be who I am and who I was for us to win games. I am going to continue to get better and find ways to win games. Be that senior leader.”
He transferred in from St. Laurence prior to the season. He talked about the difference between the Catholic League and Public League programs.
“It was way different. My mindset going into it was once I made the decision to come to Simeon I was going to lock in. Be the best person and best player I can be. Do everything I can do to help Simeon win city and state. We are still trying to get there, but I like the direction we are going.”
What schools is he in communication with about playing at the college level?
“Still on a daily basis Southern Illinois and Valpo.”
Valparaiso got an official visit out of him back in the fall.
“They have been there since day one. Me and coach Holloway and Coach Lotich and some of the guys on the team I am real close with.”
Southern Illinois also had him on campus in the fall, but for an unofficial visit.
“Coach Mamon I am real close with him and building that relationship.”
Akron was the other school that he took an official to, but he says they are not in the mix any longer.
“I haven’t talked to them in I don’t know how long.”
What is the next step in his recruitment?
“Next step I haven’t taken an official visit to Southern Illinois. After that decision time. It would be time to make a decision.”
If no other schools offer would he consider playing on the grassroots circuit in the spring?
“No. I would make a decision and call it a day.”
Williams is not near a decision yet and will wait until after the season is over to decide.
