Prospect Spotlight: Tyrell Harris (2021)
Tyrell Harris, a class of 2021 forward from Potomac High School in Dumfries, VA, is a nice all-around prospect. Listed at 6-foot-6, 180 pounds with long arms, Harris is a good athlete who is a solid rim protector. He also has good lateral quickness which enables him to switch onto guards. This makes him very effective in Coach Keith Honore’s man-to-man pressure defensive scheme.
“I do whatever is needed. Whatever the coach asks of me, I’m prepared to do.” Harris told Prep Hoops during a recent interview.
Harris is a good scorer with his back to the basket. He hits tough shots, can finish with either hand and can finish through contact. Harris also can pull up on a dime and consistently hit mid-range jumpers as we saw at the Forge Tip-Off.
“I’ve worked all summer to improve my jump shot and handle,” he stated. “I think my post-game and ability to find others are underrated.”
A couple of things Harris does particularly well are rebound and sell contact. He is relentless on the boards and is adept at taking charges.
“I do whatever is needed in every game,” he explained. “Not always scoring. Maybe rebounding and defending.”
Harris mentioned that his goals are to just go out and win each time he hits the court. As far as recruitment, he hopes to find a school that has a family environment. What can he bring to a college program?
“Everything.”
