With teams rounding into full form and so many regions and league standings up for grabs, it’s going to be something of a war of attrition for teams late in the year. There is a lot of parity around the state at both class levels, which creates a lot of chaos and opportunity for teams to earn impressive wins on a nightly basis.
Here are last week’s top teams:
Thompson
The Tommies are on a nice little roll, winning five games in a row including three last week. Thompson earned two really nice wins last week, beating North Border by 34 on Thursday before taking down previously ranked New Rockford-Sheyenne. Chance Danner and Clay Odenbach have anchored the Tommies all year and they were terrific in the win over the Rockets, combining to score 30 points and grab 33 rebounds.
Four Winds/Minnewaukan
The Indians just keep piling up wins over solid teams. Last week, they won four games to improve to 11-0 and did so by beating two ranked teams and another that’ll win 15-plus games. A 51-44 win over New Rockford-Sheyenne kicked off the week, followed it up with a blowout win over Benson County (Jaeshaun Shaw and Bronson Walter scored 20 and 18 points respectively to lead the way) before earning the win of the week, beating Hillsboro/Central Valley 60-47. Bronson Walter and Jayden Yankton led the charge in that one as nine guys scored. The Indians capped off the week with a blowout win over Oak Grove, getting 20 from Jayden Yankton.
Dickinson
On a week where practically every top team in the WDA split two games, Dickinson found a way to avoid a loss while also picking up a significant win. The Midgets opened the week with an impressive 57-56 win over Mandan, getting 24 points and eight rebounds from Kobe Krenz and 18 points, four rebounds and five assists from Jaiden Wright. The Midgets wrapped up the week with a businesslike win over Watford City. Krenz and Wright were excellent in that game, and Tallon Klatt added 16 points and 10 rebounds.
