Happy New Year! The 2019-2020 season is flying by. Let's start off 2020 by taking a look back at the first part of this high school season. Here we highlight 9 of the hottest teams in the area.

THEODORE ROOSEVELT (DC) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 12 GAMES

Coach Rob Nickens and the Roughriders have some impressive wins on their resume early in the season. Their signature win came early in the season when they knocked off DCIAA powerhouse Woodrow Wilson, and they've been rolling ever since. Guys like 2021 Jasir Tremble, 2020 Marcel Gabriel, 2021 Keyon Ware, 2022 Phillip Flegler, and 2020 Amadi Kane are among many who've stepped up.

YORKTOWN (VA) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 10 GAMES

The Patriots historic season continued at the Bulldog Bash where they knocked off a very good Potomac School squad to win the championship. Steady guard play by the likes of Yared Belay and Brandon Warner has been a key element to this team's success.

SOUTH COUNTY (VA) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 9 GAMES

South County overcame a scare Hayfield to start the season, fighting back to win in overtime against their rivals. The Stallions continue their winning ways and are up to 9 wins in a row. 2021 Andre Speight has been the closer in big games while 2021 Trenton Picott has been an anchor on the defensive end.

BULLIS (MD) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 9 GAMES

After dropping three games to start the season, the Bulldogs have ripped off 9 wins in a row. They are coming off a championship at the Benedictine Capital City Classic where they knocked off the Cadets. It should be noted that Bullis was battling injuries earlier in the year, but are now fully healthy and firing on all cylinders.

CITY (MD) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 8 GAMES

City outlasted a very good Mervo team to open the season, followed that up by picking up a good road win at last year's 4A state runner-up Broadneck, and haven't looked back since. The Knights have been led by the backcourt duo of 2020 Dominick Carrington and 2021 Ahmad Harrison along with the fearsome frontcourt tandem of 2021 Clarence Obiajulu and 2022 Kevin Kalu.

WILLIAMSPORT (MD) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 7 GAMES

The Wildcats head into 2020 with an unblemished record. They recently knocked off a very good Walter Johnson squad to win The Doub Tournament. 2020's Lincoln Ball, Caleb Bowers, and 2022 Macahi Nelson have all played at a high-level.

MIDDLEBURG (VA) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 6 GAMES

Heading into the season, Middleburg showed a lot of potential, but their start wasn't ideal. The Dragons dropped 2 of their first 5 games, but haven't lost since. They've picked up some impressive wins along the way against the likes of Episcopal, Flint Hill, and St. Charles. The dynamic 2021 backcourt duo of Isaiah Folkes and Jaden House have shined.

POTOMAC (MD) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 5 GAMES

This year's Potomac team is looking very dangerous. The Wolverines, who are led by Maryland Football commit Corey Dyches, have a good supporting cast. 2020's Elijah Crawford and Jordan Beckett have been very reliable thus far, and given their track record should continue to be moving forward.

SPRINGBROOK (MD) | CURRENT WIN STREAK: 5 GAMES

Springbrook was looking like one of the teams to beat in Montgomery County heading into the season, and have not disappointed. The Blue Devils have faced tough tests against the likes of Wootton, Whitman, and Reservoir but have passed them all so far. 2021 Daouda Dembele has been a vital part of the team's success but let's not overlook the contributions of 2022 Amare Curtis.
