SubscribePrep Hoops Missouri took a look at the Kearney-St Joe Lafayette game on Thursday night in the semifinals of the Kearney Classic. Lafayette built a 21-17 lead at halftime, but Kearney staged a big defensive effort in the second half to take a 44-36 victory.
Here is a look at the top standouts from the Kearney-Lafayette game.
Brennan Watkins 5’11” Kearney: The 2021 point guard scored a game-high 26 points and displayed three-level scoring ability. His shooting range is deep and his float game is very advanced. He moves well without the ball and comes off screens to shoot it and he can create off the dribble.
Kolten Griffin 6’5” SJ Lafayette: The 2020 forward posted a near double-double with his high motor and tenacity around the basket. He loves to attack the offensive boards and he also did an excellent job of making his free throws. He causes match-up problems with his ability to put the ball on the floor.
Ashton Holloway 6’4” Kearney: The 2022 forward came through with a big third quarter as the Bulldogs came back and took control of the game. He is an active player who loves to drive the ball and doesn’t mind the contact. He has a nice spin move in the lane to free himself for buckets.
Braden Liukart 6’0” SJ Lafayette: The 2021 lefty guard scored 11 points and got the Irish out to a good start with his 3-point shooting. He has a smooth stroke from distance and some physical toughness to go along with it.
T.J. Alexander 6’0” SJ Lafayette: A physical And athletic 2020 point guard who plays a very unselfish game. The lefty is a good passer and very good at getting into the lane and getting shots off at different angles. He is a solid defender who can also knock down an open jumper.
