Friday’s Games to Watch
With the holidays now behind us, WIAA boy’s basketball action will heat up once again…
WHITEFISH BAY (5-2) at DOMINICAN (6-0)
Currently seated atop the North Shore Conference, Whitefish Bay is having a nice bounceback season. Junior guard Jayden Jackson (21.6 ppg) remains one of the best players in the state most have yet to hear about.
Through six games, Dominican has looked like a state title contender in Division 3. The Knights have not only been battle tested, but have collected some impressive blowouts early on in the season as well. Senior forward Alex Antetokounmpo is having a monster campaign, posting 24.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
SAINT CROIX CENTRAL (6-0) at HUDSON (6-1)
Central has quietly worked their way up the Division 3 rankings with a 6-0 start. The Panthers have four players currently averaging in double figures led by junior forward Kelson Klin (14.5 ppg).
Another surprise team, Hudson is competing in the always tough Big Rivers Conference, including a big upset win over River Falls earlier this season. Junior guard Luke Healy is putting up strong numbers in 2019-20, averaging north of 20 ppg.
MAUSTON (5-2) at ALTOONA (4-1)
After a slow start, Mauston has won four games in a row, three of which have come by double digits. Sweet-shooting wing Cade Hall leads the way at 26.1 ppg during his senior season.
Currently first place in the Cloverbelt West Conference, Altoon is getting 15.8 ppg from junior guard Keshawn Harris and 15.2 ppg from junior forward Brayden Turk. Their only loss this season has come at the hands of a top ranked Stratford club.
HORTONVILLE (9-0) at KIMBERLY (6-1)
Before the season, who would have thought this game would have these type of implications on the Fox Valley Association title race?
The surprise team of the first half of the season, Hortonville is not only unbeaten, they’ve won five of their nine games by 25 points or more. The Polar Bears aren’t loaded with individual talent, but instead are thriving on team ball, featuring a balanced attack that has five players averaging at least 10 points per game.
The preseason favorite in the FVA, Kimberly has hit a bit of a rough patch, although they’ve tangled with two ranked teams in Division 1, Sussex Hamilton and Arrowhead, falling by a combined five points. Rockhurst commit Jake Buchanan leads the way at 17.2 ppg. Sophomore guard Jackson Paveletzke is having a breakout season, posting 14.2 ppg.
