As of matter of fact, I watched two exciting games on Friday.
First, I was at Lausanne to see Whitehaven play Christian Brothers. Then, I went to Arlington High School to watch the Tigers host Cordova.
I received a lucky draw Friday night.
Usually, I write about the three takeaways from one game, but this time around, I’m going to list the top performers from all four teams. This is, sort of, a snippet of my usual “Top Players of the Week” story.
So, let’s get to it.
Alvin Miles, Whitehaven: After putting up 27 points in a lopsided win over Overton Thursday night, the senior guard had 22 points in the 64-62 win over Christian Brothers (13-6) in the Ultimate South Showcase at Lausanne Collegiate School. Miles was huge from the free throw line for the Tigers, going 9 for 10. Whitehaven’s still undefeated (14-0).
Kavion McClain, Whitehaven: McClain finished with 20 points and went 3 for 4 from the free throw line. His final two free throws lifted the Tigers to their two-point win after leading by as many as 18 points in the third quarter.
Jesse Payne, Whitehaven: Payne finished with 13 points, despite dealing with foul trouble. He fouled out with 6.7 seconds left in the game. At that point, the Tigers were up 62-60.
Chandler Jackson, Christian Brothers: The sophomore point guard finished with 19 points and six rebounds. Jackson went 13 for 16 from the free throw line.
Harrison Kelly, Christian Brothers: The junior guard had 17 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal against the Tigers.
Reese McMullen, Christian Brothers: McMullen had 15 points, six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal against Whitehaven.
PJ Thompson, Arlington: Thompson led the Tigers (10-5) with 19 points in their 71-64 win over Cordova (12-3). He scored 15 of the 19 points in the first half, which kept Arlington within striking distance, down 28-24 at the break.
Madison Peaster, Arlington: The junior point guard had a quiet first half, but got going in the second half. Peaster made 7 of 12 free throw attempts to finish the night with 15 points.
Chris McKnight, Arlington: McKnight finished with 14 points.
Phil Dotson III, Arlington: Dotson made big shots in the second half, including two 3s that gave the Tigers the lead. He finished with 12 points.
RJ Seals, Cordova: Seals led the Wolfpack with 11 points.
Jordan Hamilton, Cordova: Hamilton had 10 points, but spent most of his time on the bench in foul trouble. He did make two big 3s down the stretch. The first one tied the game up at 58. The second one gave the Wolfpack a 61-60 lead.
Cordova was without senior point guard Justin Borders, who’s dealing with a hand injury. The Wolfpack dealt with foul trouble for the entire game. K’Juan Banks, Markelrion Hines, Dwight DeBerry and Calvin Jennings fouled out in the second half.
