Cave Spring attacks the rim early
The Knights jumped out to an early 16-point lead at the half thanks to an efficient gameplan. They shot 16-of-24 from the field (66.7 percent) from the inside the 3-point arc as a team in the first half with 10 fastbreak points. Cave Spring led 37-21 at the break with 12 total assists as a team. They used their experience to their advantage and never looked back in this one. In the end, the Knights won 64-47 over Blacksburg.
Reed Pendleton shows off excellent shooting stroke
2021 guard Reed Pendleton finished the game with 20 points on three made 3-pointers along with three rebounds and two steals for Cave Spring. The 6-foot-1 guard showed poise creating his own shot off the catch and off the dribble and will be a sharpshooter to track this season.
Parker Huffman shows his stuff
Forward Parker Huffman showed off for Cave Spring as well with a double-double of his own at 20 points and 11 rebounds. Huffman flew around the floor on both ends making plays off the dribble and in the lane. He had a few big dunks as well. He’s a steal for Christopher Newport University with his ability to run the floor, attack the rim and shoot the basketball at 6-foot-8.
Jalen Buster dishes out 10 assists
Senior point guard Jalen Buster was effective dishing the basketball more than shooting it, as evidenced by his 10 assists and zero made field goals through the game. While he didn’t score, he still found ways to impact the game on both ends. He also finished with four steals on the defensive end. He’ll be one to watch on the baseball diamond next season at Radford.
Brock Vice has a bright future at Blacksburg High
Brock Vice is just a freshman but he showed he’s due for a big boost in playing time with a big performance off the bench for the Bruins. He put up 25 points, 19 rebounds (6 offensive) and three blocks on 12-of-19 shooting from the floor. He showed nice touch in the midrange and around the rim on offense and a future in rim-protection on defense.
