Washburn Rural’s Jack Hamilton might be the best pure shooter. But these five have been the most consistently productive thus far in the short season.
1) Joe Berry, Washburn Rural, forward
The 6-foot-2 junior has scored at least 20 in all four games. With his team lacking a pure paint presence, Berry has to do it inside and outside. He hasn’t disappointed thus far, leading the city with 23.25 points per game.
2) Elijah Brooks, Topeka West, guard
His team has only played two games so far, but we know the 6-foot-2 sophomore can score because he put up 10.5 a game as a freshman. He showed his hops with two big dunks and 24 points against Highland Park. He tossed in 20 against Emporia.
3) Juan’Tario Roberts, Highland Park, guard
The 5-11 sophomore is about as consistent as Berry, and is perhaps the most dynamic players in town when he has the ball in his hands. He’s averaging 21.6 in five games, including 29 against Topeka West.
4) CJ Powell, Highland Park, forward
The 6-foot-7 junior is an athletic compliment to Roberts. He averaged 15 points in five games, and was held to single-digits just once. When HP needed a winning bucket with 4 seconds left against KC-Washington, they turned to Powell.
5) Harvey Davis, Shawnee Heights, forward
An undersized post, Davis averaged 10.3 points a game last year as a sophomore. This year, he’s reliable for double digits every time out.
