Event organizer Dinos Trigonis, a legend in his own right does a tremendous job of putting together fan-friendly matchups. The event features 8 different divisions spread out over several courts throughout the city. Day 1 tips off with the opening round of the Pangos Elite 8 Prep division which features several of the top teams from the Grind Session. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the day 1 standouts.
Daishen Nix 6’5 PG Trinity 2020 (#1PHN 2020) – The scary thing, is that Nix has improved. There was a time not too long ago, where you could hope he settles for jumpers. Now he’s knocking down 35 footers so I’m not quite sure how you defend him. He was his usual dominant self pouring in 40 as Trinity cruised to an easy 1st round victory over Cornerstone.
Frankie Collins 6’1 PG Compass Prep 2021 – The lighting quick Collins was all over the floor for AZ Compass. He defended, drove to the rim and set up teammates. Collins has a unique knack for creating space and knocking down shots off the bounce. Ultimate paint touch guy with elite blow by ability.
Carlos Rosario 6’7 SF Veritas Prep 2020 – Finished with a game-high 18 points leading Veritas to a thrilling last-second victory over Dream City Christian.
Kai Sotto 7’2 C TSF 2020 – The 7’2 Philippino prodigy was impressive on the night. He moves well for a man his size, and displayed a terrific feel for the game. Playing against top 10 recruit Makur Maker, Sotto protected the rim at an elite level. He showed a soft touch and nice shooting form.
Sincere Parker 6’4 SG Compass Prep 2020 – Parker was awesome today. The physically gifted wing was lights out from behind the arc, nailing 4 threes. He also showed off his run and jump athletic ability finishing several plays with thunderous dunks at the rim. He and Collins formed the best 1-2 punch on the day leading AZ Compass to a 33 point win over Spire.
