“I think we are off to a really good start so far,” Thissen said. “Our energy and competitiveness is very high. Our team has played really well simply because everyone knows their role. Another thing that’s contributed to our early success is we have a deep bench, so we are able to get guys in the game that can keep the same intensity.”
The Lightning are 5-1 with wins over Champlin Park, Chaska, Minnetonka, and Wayzata. Their lone loss is to Eden Prairie 69-61. Next up? East Ridge on the 27th. Thissen has provided his team with 21 points a game against this difficult schedule led by his 27 points against Chaska.
“Our main goal this year is to win a state championship,” Thissen said. “We were able to get to state last year, and it was beneficial for all of us to be able to experience that.
“So this year we want to make a good run, and make it to the state championship game. And personally, I just want to keep leading and contributing as much as I can on the offensive and defensive ends.”
A player that consistently produces at a high level against the best teams in Minnesota commonly lands at a high quality college basketball location. Ryan Thissen has been that player.
“I really want to play for a school that’s a very competitive team, and has tons of energy and support from their community,” Thissen said.
Thissen is down to a pair of schools for his college decision.
“I have it narrowed down to either St. John’s or St. Thomas,” Thissen explained. “I’ve visited them each a few times. I love the coaches at both the schools, as well as how successful they’ve both been over the past several years. They both also provide great opportunities for the career I want to pursue.”
