He has an elite burst with the rock in his hands and is a quality passer being able to get his many weapons involved both with his high school team and on the circuit with the Illinois Wolves. An area he doesn’t get enough credit is the growth he has made as a perimeter shooter. He spoke with us a little about that.
“I worked on my shot a lot over the summer. Playing on the circuit you have to be able to shoot the ball. I don’t enough credit as I should on that, but I have improved a lot.”
What other areas has he made the biggest leaps in his game?
“My leadership. Not even involving the ball. Just my leadership being a floor general and a point guard. Coach Mullins always expresses that to me. I have to be a point guard in college so I have to start now.”
Sayles dived into his dual sport recruitment with PHI.
“Recruitment has slowed down a little bit because I just got out of football. Hopefully it will pick back up. I am getting recruited more in football right now than basketball.”
For football he is a standout quarterback that has several power five schools recruiting him although he doesn’t hold any offer yet. He rattled off a list of the programs most interested.
“Michigan State, Miami (OH), Duke, and Iowa State.”
What about his basketball recruitment?
“The two I have offers from in UW-Milwaukee and Loyola have been very consistent. I have been hearing from Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, and Illinois State.”
The star junior broke down each of the two schools that have extended offers to him.
UW-Milwaukee
“The family aspect knowing Coach Baldwin my whole life. I have known him and his son (five star junior Pat Baldwin Jr) and the family. They are like a second family to me.”
Loyola
“Coach Moser and the rest of the coaching staff always treat me like family. I play with Jake Moser on the Wolves so that is where the family aspect comes in. All the players treat me great. Some of the guys are Wolves guys. The atmosphere and the fact that they want to win.”
Sayles currently is the #1 point guard and #7 overall prospect in the PHI 2021 Rankings.
