No POY race in recent memory has had as many potential candidates as this one. Throughout the season PH will keep you updated with the POY race. In this article, we take a look at the candidates after week 3.
Favorites:
Zaon Collins 6’1 PG Bishop Gorman 2021 (#2 2021) – Collins has been the main catalyst to the Gaels 4-0 start. He took home player of the game honors last week at the So Cal – LV Showdown.
Will McClendon 6’4 SG Bishop Gorman 2021 (#3 2021) – You’re going to have to earn this POY award. McClendon’s performance during the Tarkanian Classic catapulted him right to the front. I’m a big fan of tough smart players. The Junior sniper displayed the heart of Adonis Creed to go along with an Einstein IQ.
Julian Strawther 6’6 SF Liberty 2020 (#2 2020) – What is amazing the most about Strawther is that he is putting up 40 a game while facing constant double and triple teams. Once Kobe Stoughter gets going for the Patriots watch out.
Daishen Nix 6’5 PG Trinity International 2020 (#1 2020) – Daishen has elevated himself into a program changing player. The Trinity PG carried his team to the title of the Prep Division bracket in at the Tarkanian Classic.
Jaden Hardy 6’4 PG Coronado 2021 (#1 2021) – Hardy had another strong week helping Coronado pick up a couple wins in the Tarkanian Classic.
Contenders:
Milos Uzan 6’3 PG Desert Pines 2022 – It was another stock-raising week for Uzan. The uber-talented sophomore was named the MVP of the Eight Bracket, leading Desert Pines to the title.
Dark Horses:
Kareem Rowe 6’4 PF McQueen 2020 – Rowe’s number dropped a little bit with his 29 and 15 and 22 and 7 performances in his last two outings. He still has McQueen at 5-2 and is averaging over 25 per night.
Anthony Hunter 5’11 PG Durango 2020 (#6 2020) – Hunter is starting to hit his stride. Durango has already surpassed its win total from last season and Hunter’s play is a big part of the success. His shot-making ability and ability to clamp down on the defensive end makes him dangerous.
Donavan Yap 6’2 SG Arbor View 2020 (#5 2020) – Yap sat out this week.
Glenn Taylor 6’5 SF Cheyenne 2021 (#4 2021) – All Glenn Taylor seems to do his carry the Desert Shields. He is currently averaging over 22 per game and has Cheyenne sitting at 5-2 right now.
Long Shots:
Keshon Gilbert 6’2 PG Durango 2021 (#7 2021) – Gilbert continues to lead the Blazers. The emotional and vocal leader of the squad helped the Trailblazers go 3-1 this week and earn a birth in the Orleans bracket Championship Game.
Mason Whittaker 6’5 PG Spanish Springs 2020 (#44 2020) – Whittaker continues to stuff the stat sheet he had 21 8 3 and 2 in his last outing.
