Continue ReadingBeing named Mr. Basketball in the state of Michigan is among the highest accolades that a basketball player can receive. The winner of the award will go down in history as one of the best ever. Their name will live on forever in the record books. Lorne Bowman is certainly talented enough to join that list of names. He is a star senior point guard at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
Bowman is a highly skilled lead guard. He can score and dish with equal efficiency, depending on what his team needs. We often hear the term “score first point guard”. While Bowman isn’t that, he certainly can be if his team needs it. He’s a strong ball handler that doesn’t waste a dribble. Every move that Bowman makes has a purpose and a plan. He’s a consummate floor general that can create for himself and his teammates.
Bowman has a history of success that’s led to him being a highly touted prospect. Last high school season he was nearly unstoppable. Bowman averaged 23.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, and 5.1 apg. During grassroots season, he played in 9 games in the Nike EYBL circuit for The Family, where he averaged 14.1 ppg, 3.3 apg, and 3.1 rpg. 247 Sports has Bowman ranked 174th overall and 31st at his position nationally. ESPN has had him as high as the 21st ranked point guard in the country. Here at Prep Hoops Michigan, we have Bowman ranked as the 4th overall prospect in Michigan. The 3 star lead guard is signed with the Wisconsin Badgers.
Even with all those accolades, the best may still be in store for Lorne Bowman. He’s part of a loaded backcourt and talented all around roster at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. They have multiple prospects with Division 1 potential and are considered one of the favorites to make a run at a state championship. It’s definitely possible to see Lorne Bowman hoist 2 trophies this season, a state championship and the Mr. Basketball award.
