Jalen Terry is definitely a frontrunner for the award. He’s a 5’11” senior star point guard at Flint Beecher. Terry is rated as the #3 prospect in Michigan’s class of 2020 and ESPN has him ranked 73rd nationally. He’s considered a 4 star prospect.
Terry has been a highly regarded prospect since he burst on the high school scene as a freshman. He’s a 4 year varsity player and was part of a state championship team at Flint Beecher in his first season. Last high school season, Terry averaged 22.5 ppg, 7 rpg, 5.7 apg, and 3.6 spg.
He followed up a stellar high school season with an explosive grassroots campaign. Terry played with The Family on the Nike EYBL circuit. He averaged 19.1 ppg, 5.6 apg, 4.5 rpg and 2.7 spg in the EYBL. He also shot 47.4% from the field. Terry was named the Nike EYBL Most Improved Player. He originally committed to Michigan State, but has since decommitted and opened his recruitment back up.
Jalen Terry is an extremely skilled player. He has quick feet and is fast both horizontally and vertically. Terry is an excellent ball handler and is aggressive with the dribble. He always seems to have complete control of the ball when it’s in his hands. Terry is a natural penetrator that creates looks for himself and his teammates. He has good start-stop speed that keeps his defenders guessing. Terry is adept at playing through contact and routinely picks up and 1’s. Despite being a shade under 6’0″, his athleticism and vertical leap allow him to play and finish above the rim.
Jalen Terry has been a fireball of excitement since he arrived as a freshman. It would be no surprise if he ends his high school career with the same flurry of thrills: A state championship and Michigan’s Mr. Basketball.
