Game Recap: It felt like Oxford was a ticking time bomb. They kept Huntsville in the game for the first half and even let them pull within 6 in the third quarter, but they were too much late in the game and pulled away.
Oxford’s Top Performers:
-Rylan Houke (#2): Rylan had a very impressive overall performance. He presented a dual threat inside on the glass and outside shooting the ball. Everyone knew Zondrick Garrett was the star player and it really allowed Rylan to shine. He is not the most athletic player on the court, but very sound fundamentally with his footwork and being in the right spot on the court. He finished with 22 points on 8-13 shooting and grabbed 8 rebounds. He needs to protect the ball better, as he had 8 turnovers.
-Zondrick Garrett II (#1): In the first round, he got into early foul trouble and the fans did not get to see him play the entire game. He drew a lot of attention from Huntsville’s defense, but that opened up his teammates. He still dominated with 14 points and 15 rebounds. It was exciting to see him play above the rim, rocking several alley hoops.
-Justin Moore (#12): Justin was all over the court the entire game. He finished with 14 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He had a knack of getting to the free throw line where he went 5-8, but none was more impressive than the poster dunk to end the first half electrifying the crowd.
Huntsville’s Top Performers:
–Massiah Morris (#3): Massiah proved to be a dangerous threat early in the game. He shot the ball well from deep early in the game hitting 2 threes. He caused the defense to stumble when he got a full head of steam and attacked the basket. Unfortunately he cooled off and struggled to shoot, finishing 4-18 for 10 points.
–Griffin Wray (#1): Griffin was the spark that rallied Huntsville in the third quarter. He hit a huge corner three and a soft floater off a steal. His aggressive defense forced a few travels and other steals. One huge play, he dove into the backcourt to save the backcourt violation and keep the possession alive. He grabbed three offensive rebounds and finished with 14 points.
