Gonzaga recruit Julian Strawther has gone all Julian Strawther for Liberty putting up over 100 points in his first 3 games. They also have the inside presence of Joshua Jefferson and the outside shooting of Kobe Stroughter. They take on Rancho Christian and Strawther’s future Zags teammate Dominick Harris. Rancho also has sharpshooting junior Luke Turner and of course the nation’s #1 player in Evan Mobley. The Patriots lost a heartbreaker last week against Arbor View, a game they were up by 19 with under 6 minutes to go. This game is another opportunity for Liberty to stake their claim as one of the premier programs on the west coast.
(2) Desert Pines Vs Las Vegas – This will be my first chance to check out DP. I got an opportunity to spend some time with them this fall, and I found them to be a well-coached, highly motivated squad. They have a ton of talent, however I’m most interested in seeing how rising junior Andrew Swift fits for their team. Las Vegas is 1-1 on the year with a loss against Palo Verde and a win over Valley. They have been led by the play of Kentrell Wallace, and rising sophomore Tavaointe Jackson. DP will be a tough matchup for coach Wilson’s young team, however playing at home, I expect the Wildcats to be up to the challenge.
(3) Clark vs Durango – The Beeten Bowl takes place this Wednesday. Should be a fun matchup as former Clark coach Chad Beeten leads Durango against his old team. Beeten turned Clark into a powerhouse over the last decade and is looking to do the same thing for the Trailblazers. Durango has gotten off to a 3-0 start behind the play of Anthony Hunter, Keshon Gilbert and fabulous freshmen Sabastien Mack. They’re averaging a 25ppg margin of victory. Clark is still a relatively unknown team. They are led by junior Cameron Kimble and won their opening game of the season against Democracy Prep. Clark still has holdovers from last years Championship game team, and the game against Durango should go a long way to providing insight into their season.
