Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several Kansas players who stood out during the action.
33 — Luke Adams, 6’0, G, 2021, Blue Valley North
Adams has established himself as one of Kansas’ premier outside shooters who is nails when left open. Adams knocked down five 3-pointers in the Mustangs opener on Tuesday against Pembroke Hill. Adams is comfortable running the point and plays within himself, running the team, moving the ball and letting scoring opportunities come to him.
Nick Arensberg, 6’1, G, 2020, Shawnee Mission East
Arensberg is a do-everything wing player who plays much bigger than his 6’1 listed height would suggest. He handles the ball well, gets to the basket and finishes over bigger players. Arensberg can knock down perimeter shots, and likes to play a fast-paced, up-tempo style of play. He showed the ability to pass and make plays and helped the Lancers advance to the championship game on their home floor.
23 — Connor Arment, 5’9, G, 2021, Barstow
Don’t be fooled by Arment’s 5’9 listed height, he is among the Kansas City area’s top offensive players. Arment is a crafty ball handler who plays the game under control and doesn’t get rattled. He can play either guard spot, helping run the point, or play off the ball where he is a standout shooter. Arment has a quick release, can shoot off the catch or the bounce and has range beyond the arc.
2 — Quinton Conley, 6’4, G/F, 2022, Pembroke Hill
A strong, athletic wing player, Conley was an all-state football selection who is one of the state’s top prospects in his class. He is also a standout on the hardwood, showing the ability to handle the ball, slash to the basket and can score from all three levels. He is a terrific rebounder and defender who works hard at both ends of the court.
5 — Jack Sheplak, 6’3, SG, 2020, Blue Valley North
Tough in the open floor. Has good size at 6’3 with a long frame. Uses Euro step in the open floor to get around defenders and showed the ability to finish in transition. Sheplak can also stick an outside shot if left open and has a good feel for moving off the ball and getting open.
