Bishop McGuinness vs. Santa Fe South: 5 Big Takeaways

Here are my top five takeaways from the matchup.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; color: #ff6600;"><strong>McGuinness’ Transition Offense</strong></span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">McGuinness scores over 2/3 of there points in transition. Of course, this means credit is due to the defense creating the transition opportunities, but McGuinness was nearly flawless once the had the ball in their hands. Everyone was selfless with the ball, giving McGuinness multiple great looks at the rim on the break. McGuinness will continue to excel in the 4A class as long as they buy-in on both sides of the ball and play to their strengths.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; color: #ff6600;"><strong>Santa Fe South’s Mental Toughness</strong></span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">When the score was 31-9 at halftime, there wasn’t a single person on South’s bench that thought they were out of the game. They came out of the locker room with a newfound intensity, focusing their game possession by possession. With every turnover came something to learn, not a frustrated shouting match as you see way too often. Santa Fe South stuck to their game, started executing better and ended but cutting the 21 point lead down to seven with around two minutes left in the game.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;"><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Graham Tawwater</strong></span> - Bishop McGuinness - #2 - 2022</span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Tawwater came out locked in and prepared to work. He knocked down shots and was reliable guarding the 1 through 4. He was a key part of McGuinness’ hot start with 8 of his 10 points coming in the first half, allowing McGuinness to coast pretty comfortably to victory.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;"><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Jeremiah Clark</strong></span> - Santa Fe South - #3 - 2022</span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">The Santa Fe South sophomore played with veteran composure and looked completely comfortable leading South’s offense. Clark played with patience, allowing plays to develop in front of him and executing them, especially late in the game. Don’t be surprised to see Clark on a top sophomore list in the future.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;"><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>Jason Nolan</strong></span> - Bishop McGuinness - #23 - 2020</span></p> <p class="p1"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Nolan showed why he belongs on the court Friday night against Santa Fe South. From smothering defense to a high flying dunk, Nolan’s athleticism combined with his composure and basketball IQ will earn him a spot somewhere to play at the next level.</span></p>
