5 Takeaways: Bolingbrook vs Stagg

Monday night PrepHoopsIllinois took in some action from Bolingbrook High School as the Raiders hosted Stagg. Bolingbrook is so balanced. With their guard play and defense they controlled the game from the beginning. They won 82-57. Here are our 5 Takeaways: Bolingbrook vs Stagg.

Bolingbrook D and Transition Game

The Raiders are a full court pressuring team that creates turnovers and nets them into points on the other end of the floor. It was absolutely relentless all game long and there wasn’t much that Stagg could do with it. Bolingbrook has too much speed and active hands getting deflections and steals all over the court. Then they do a great job of throwing outlets to teammates running to the hoop at the other end of the floor. It was a clinic on defensive pressure by Rob Brost’s group on Monday.

Darius Burford Impact Get for Elon

Bolingbrook has one star D1 senior this year in Darius Burford. The athletic and powerful combo guard showcased some of what makes him a quality get for Elon at the next level on Monday night. He fits Bolingbrook’s style to perfection with his ability to get out and run! Finishes in transition and gets steals. In the half court he loves to attack on the baseline with quick moves. Can finish above the rim and with runners. Quality passer that makes bullet passes on the move. He had 14 points.

Raiders Wings Provide Depth

This program has always been defined by their guard play. That is definitely continuing this season. In addition to Burford they have a plethora of depth at the wing/guard spots. Kai Evans is a power wing that plays with physicality around the hoop. Finishes dump off passes inside and slashes to the rim with force. He had 14 points. Isaiah Stafford is a smooth combo guard that hits mid-range jumpers and floaters along with being a sound passer. Senior transfer Alijah Nelson is a sound shooter from the corners. He had 12 points. Myles Cooper is another one of the guards that contributes in a major way as a two way player.

Donaven Younger Next Star Post

The next star at Bolingbrook is 6’7” 2023 power forward Donaven Younger. This mobile four man has all the tools you could ask for in a young post prospect. Size, length, and the ability to cover ground in the paint. Rebounds well at this stage, but will need to add strength going forward to finish better. Couple quick scores on post ups. Runs the floor very hard! Love his upside. He should be in the mix for a top 3 spot in the 2023 class.

Stagg Backcourt Competes in Loss

Despite the loss there were a couple of guys who impressed for Stagg. It starts with their 5’8” point guard Troy Huddleston. He is a fast guard that split the D on quite a few occasions for nifty finishes at the cup. Quality ball handler had 23 points. Jailin Thomas was another quality guard scorer that connected on jumpers and scored in the open floor for 9 points.
