Considering he’s 7’3 this is a very good question. Yu is far from a polished product, and it’s questionable if his style can translate in today’s game. As one scout put it. “Any team taking him on is going to have to be committed to playing to his strengths” However there is a lot to like about him. His size is obvious, at 7’3 it’s just very difficult for people to finish over him. He’s the perfect anchor for this Sierra Canyon team, as he allows their athletes to get out and gamble in passing lanes on the defensive end. Offensively I liked what I saw from him around the basket. He has decent hands, and he scored most of his points off jump hooks around the rim. His size alone is going to intrigue enough people that he’s going to get opportunities somewhere.
(2) Who Was The Best Prospect On The Floor?
Amari Bailey. I’m good with that. Bailey has been one of the top players in his class since they started rankings kids in middle school. He showed why on Wednesday night. At times he was simply an overpowering athlete. His speed, strength, and quickness translate to any level. He has a good IQ, and shows enough of a dog, to stand out as an Alpha on a team full of Alphas.
(3) How Good Is Brony James Really?
I have to be honest. I came to this came fully prepared to hate on Brony James’ basketball ability. I was convinced that he was much more hype than substance. I was wrong. This kid can play regardless of what his surname is. Physically he’s a specimen. He also is a knockdown shooter with great form, release and follow-through. I was blown away by how advanced his offensive game actually was. He scored off several floaters and runners, that you simply don’t see kids of his age make. He will always be fighting the label of being overhyped, however, I won’t be one of the people calling him that. He is a legit high major talent.
(4) Has Anyone Heard Of Fabio Basili?
Are we just going to ignore Fabio Basili? Yes, Mike James was the best player on the floor for Oakridge, however, Basili was a close second. His handle is downright nasty. If we were back in the age of And 1 mixtapes, Basili might already be a legend. His ballhandling skills weren’t just for entertainment, as he displayed the ability to create space and raise up from behind the arc. He’s a tremendous young talent, that differently put himself on the radar last night. He finished with 19 for the game.
(5) Is There A Team That Can Beat A Healthy Sierra Canyon This Year?
Any team can be beaten. However when you factor in that neither Zaire Wade, or Williams played for Sierra last night, it’s hard to see how any high school team can beat them with all hands on deck. I don’t just mean this year, I mean ever. Last night they got 26 off the bench from Brony James and Brandon Boston. Just think about that for a second… Brandon Boston is a top 10 player that has committed to Kentucky, and he didn’t even start! Then think about the fact that Zaire Williams who didn’t even play is ranked higher. IMG is good, Montverde is good, however, when they are at full strength it’s going to take a magical night for someone to beat this team this season.
