The Desert Southeast has two powerhouse teams at the top. It’s easy to forget that the Falcons are the defending champions. No one is picking them to win, however after the display of effort, teamwork and ball movement that I just witnessed, It’s difficult to pick against them.
(2) ARE THE FALCONS THE DEEPEST TEAM IN THE STATE?
Easy answer here, yes! They had 10 guys get into the scoring column last night. That in itself is amazing enough when you factor in the fact that they were missing two starters, it’s hard to see how any non prep school team in the country, much less the state will receive production from more players.
(3) WHAT WAS THE BRIGHT SPOT FOR RANCHO?
They’re young, and coach Childress has a plan. Rancho didn’t play their best game, but they got valuable minutes for their young crop. This team relies heavily on underclassmen, and everytime they step on the floor will be an opportunity for them to improve. The play of junior Ta’quon Dillion-Hodges has also been a bright spot as he opened the season with a 30 point game.
(4) WHO IS JASON GARCIA?
One of the most difficult parts about doing the rankings is discovering players that you rarely get to see. I had a chance to go in and watch Foothill practice this season, and I don’t think the name Jason Garcia came up once. In fact, in my Season Preview of the Falcons, he wasn’t mentioned at all. Click here if you don’t believe me. However, based on what I saw against Rancho, he is an elite knockdown shooter that understands how to get separation from defenders without the ball. The Falcons have like 8 guys that are lethal 3 point threats, Garcia may be their best.
(5) WILL THE RAMS WIN MORE THAN 6 GAMES THIS YEAR?
There will be no easy nights for Rancho this season, however, they have talent and are a team poised to grow throughout the year. While it’s difficult to pinpoint which games will be victories, I do believe behind the play of TDH and the improvement of their young Sophmore class, that they will surpass last season’s 6 win total.
