Prep Hoops Colorado has done our best to get out to as many games as we can and have seen plenty of these players this season. Here, we focus on some of the top scorers in the state. Jaden Stoffell – Manual
Stoffell is a 1stTeam All-State guard that is doing his best to defend the title that the Thunderbolts got last season. Manual graduated their top scorer from last season and seen Stoffell step up in that regard as through five games he is the No.2 scorer in the state. He is at 28.6 points a game and is one of the most aggressive offensive players in the state. He can create for himself off of the dribble or break the defender down and finish at the rim but what he is best known for is his jump-shot. He is a volume shooter that does not turn down shots. He comes off of screens but is just as viable to pull up with a defender in his face to still hit the shot. He makes tough shots and is a player that has to be defended the moment that he steps past half-court. Great start of the season for him and it does not appear as if it will be slowing down anytime soon.
Kyrie Thomas – DSST Byers
Kyrie Thomas is a Senior guard that we got the luxury of seeing this summer as showcases and what we saw was a confident scorer with the speed to blow by anybody in the gym. He is transferring that speed into more buckets to begin the season and at 24 points a game he has his DSST: Byers team at the top of the conference as they are off to a 4-0 start to the season. He can score from beyond the arc, he gets into the rim and is also able to use fast break opportunities as a way to score with ease. He excels with the ball in his hands but can be used off-ball as well as a player that knows what he wants to do before he gets the ball and does it. He is a player that can’t be denied getting to the rim with a quick first step and is a player to watch moving forward.
Elian Soto – Jefferson Academy
This point guard out of Jefferson Academy has been able to score the ball through the years. In his junior season, he was able to put up 18 points a game and now as a senior has upped his game to begin the season as he is putting 25 points a game. A lot of what he does is in the open court and he is able to covert after getting steals. Soto attacks the paint and gets to the free-throw line but is also able to find the open man as well. Jefferson Academy has been one of the surprise teams at the break as they are off to a perfect 7-0 start and the play of their point guard and his ability to put the ball in the basket has been the difference. Soto is our first unranked player to make the list and is a player to watch moving forward.
Baye Fall- Lutheran
Lutheran is off to a 4-1 start and a big reason as to why they are having such an incredible season is because of the play of their big-time freshman. One of the top freshmen in the entire country is off to a sensational start to the season. While he is known for rebounding and protecting the paint with his 6’11 frame it has been his scoring that has him as one of the top bucket getters in the state and should have more D1 schools salivating of what could be. He is up to 27.8 points a game as the only underclassmen in the top 25 in scoring and he is showing that he could get it done in various ways. He has soft touch around the rim but is also able to grab the rebound and get nasty to fight for easy baskets. He is one of the most highly recruited players in the state already as a freshman and if he continues putting up these types of numbers the pursuit will remain tireless. Big start of the year for him.
Tim Huston – DSST Green Valley
Tim Huston is my pick for the most underrated players in the state that is not in 5A. He is in 3A and DSST Green Valley isn’t a team that many have gotten out to see but we have seen Huston and when we did he dominated. He is a wing/forward that competes hard, brings energy, finds open spots in the defense and his defense turns to offense. He is a quick leaper that keeps plays alive, puts the ball on the floor and can score on the block with his strength and size but also step out a bit and keep the defense honest with a mid-range jump shot. He is a patient scorer that does not force the issue but remains aggressive. The game comes to him but he is not afraid to take over at times and through six games was able to show that as he is up to 21.8 points a game. He is also at nine rebounds a game as well and is a guy that has been overlooked for long. He has his team off to a 5-1 start to the season and is a player to watch.
