Recruiting Report: 2021 Wesley Peterson Jr
Bishop O’Connell is entering this year with only two returning players from last year’s team. One of those guys and the guy that will be the leader for this year’s Knights team is 2021 Wes Peterson. Peterson is currently positioned at 12 in our Virginia 2021 rankings. Peterson brings good versatility while standing at 6’5. On Saturday in a scrimmage against Bullis, Peterson showed off that he is capable at scoring at all three levels while finishing with close to 30 points. He was absolutely dominant with the ball in his hands and showed drastic improvements since last year knowing that he is the alpha dog for this year’s O’Connell team. He shared his thoughts with us about his leadership role he has this year.
He discussed his role as a leader on this years team.
“Coming in I know that we lost a lot of people but I just want to come in and bring energy in for the guys and lead the team and just keep everybody’s energy up.”
His offensive game has expanded since the last I saw him play and he has taken a leap in his ability to do stuff with the ball in his hands.
“I would say I am really good at driving to the basket, shooting the deep three but I am really focused on getting more mid range shots and really staying aggressive throughout the whole game which I think I did a good job of during the entire game.”
Three schools are standing out to the junior right now, “My recruitment is going good, I am hearing a lot from La Salle, Virginia and Mount St. Mary’s.”
He discussed those schools with us.
La Salle: “They have a good program, they talk to me a lot. I hear a lot from Coach Johnson, we text so that is going well.”
Virginia: “It is a good program, they have been sending me a lot of letters, pretty much weekly.”
Mount St. Mary’s: “They are a good program, they are up and coming, they have a lot of young guys, I like the direction the program is going.”
