While constructing our previews this year, we decided to do a couple All Met Teams for different areas, starting in the capital area of Richmond. We’ll be doing a first and second team, with seven guys on each team. Here’s a look at our preseason predictions for the All Met Richmond Third Team.
*Note: All Met selections are based on predicted production and impact at the high school level, not necessarily the best collegiate prospects in the area.
Jordan Parham | 5’10” G | Huguenot 2020
Parham could easily be on the first team depending on how his year and others go, but the fact is he can flat out fill it up and it doesn’t take much time for him to do so. He can play on or off the basketball, he has deep range with a quick release and he’s able to get his shot off with little to no room despite his size. He can get hot quickly and also can create off the bounce, and he has good feel on both ends of the floor as well.
James Wallace | 6’4” WF | Henrico 2020
A transfer from Lee-Davis that boosts Henrico into the conversation of top teams in Class 5, Wallace is a jack-of-all-trades wing who can make on impact in so many different ways. He has good size and can guard multiple positions, he can rebound on both ends of the floor and he’s able to score it and makes the right play when attacking a lot as well. His role for the team should be very similar to former star De’Monte Buckingham who did a little of everything for them as well.
Elijah Seward | 6’0” G | John Marshall 2020
A combo guard who can fill it up and plays with some really good toughness, Seward had a big year last year and should be a go-to guy for a talented JM team this year as well. At 6’0” he has a strong upper body and he’s super bouncy around the rim, but he’s best as a shooter as the lefty can get hot quickly and make shots from deep. He thrives in an uptempo style where he can play on or off the ball and get shots from all over the floor,
Kaleb Coleman | 6’0” G | Hopewell 2020
A transfer from Matoaca where he started all four years for the Warriors, Coleman is going to be a nice addition to the backcourt with junior Elvin Edmonds. While Edmonds is a skilled shooter, Coleman is an athletic slasher who can get to the rim and finish through traffic and he’s a great on ball defender as well. He makes an impact in many different ways for his team.
Elijah Jones | 6’2” WF | Lee-Davis 2020
Jones’ numbers should go through the roof this year with the departure of two of Lee-Davis’ top scorers from last year, and after a good summer he’s looking like one of the best wings in the area. The lefty is athletic and strong, he can make shots from all three levels and he’s a good defender and rebounder as well. He’ll be a guy who should put up big numbers this year.
Evan Castellanos | 6’5” PF | Hermitage 2021
A transfer from Benedictine who’s going the public school route, Castellanos is one of the reasons that Hermitage should be a dark horse team this year. The big man has a blend of size and strength in the post that makes him hard to match up with one-on-one, he has good touch with both hands and he’s a big paint protector as well.
Jaden Daughtry | 6’5” F | Benedictine 2022
My pick for the breakout player in the Richmond area this year, Daughtry is coming off of a big summer and should be a go-to guy for Benedictine this year. His mix of size, athleticism and skill set will make him very hard to guard at the high school level, because he can play multiple positions and score in many different ways. He’s athletic, he can shoot and he plays way above the rim on both ends of the floor.
