Sebastian Mack 6’1 SG Durango 2023 (#1 2023) – Mack would probably start for most teams. He just happens to behind two of the best perimeter players in the state. He’s an electric scorer and I actually believe that coming off the bench this season plays right to his strengths. I envision him subbing in for Gilbert or Hunter without the Trailblazers missing a beat.
Sterling Knox 6’3 SG Durango 2023 (#3 2023) – Read what I said for Mack and ditto it for Knox He can flat out shoot the ball. That skill alone should gain him valuable minutes this season. I could also see some scenarios where he starts alongside Hunter and Gilbert, however for this article he’s the perfect sub.
Semaj Threats 5’9 PG Desert Pines 2021 (#27 2021) – If there is one player that embodies the talent and depth of DP it’s Threats. All ready a citywide legend, Threats is an explosive tempo changing guard capable of impacting both ends of the floor. Much like Mack he plays behind one of the top backcourts in the state, however, the Jags won’t miss a beat when he comes in.
Jonathan Braggs 6’3 SF Bishop Gorman 2021 (#13 2021) – Gorman is going to need all hands on deck this year. I’m extremely interested in seeing how Braggs contributes. Physically he has the size, strength, and athleticism to be one of the top defenders in the area. With the loss of Allen and Cottrell, Bragg’s ability to rebound his position will be key.
Isaiah Belch 6’3 SF Foothill 2022 (#19 2022) – I really love the way Belch plays from the neck up. Usually, young players have a tendency too play to fast. Belch understands that quick is slow and uses angles, and sharp cuts to create scoring opportunities. Foothill will probably play 8 or 9 guys this season, but if Belch doesn’t start he certainly will be a key contributor off the bench.
Jason Condron 6’0 SG Palo Verde 2021 (#59 2021) – Perhaps no player represents a program better than Condron does Palo. He’s a no-nonsense, high energy, high IQ competitor. In addition to those intangibles, he can also shoot the ball. Palo returns 80% of its starters from last season, however having Condron come off the bench will only add to their firepower. He quietly averaged over 4 points a game last season in limited time.
